Meme via tumblr

Okay, I hardly ever meme, but I need something to re-awaken my fanfiction organs, I think, so here, ask me about the one that's going around tumblr right now. (Not posting to tumblr because trying to do this sort of thing in tumblr posts is terrible in all ways.)

OMGYES to the "Nick Fury as a Windu Clone" story!

I was only ever able to get my hands on a copy of Dark Empire II, not the first collection, and that only once when I was in high school a decade and a half ago. But Wookiepedia is our friend.

In Dark Empire, we find that the Emperor had a super-sekrit base with cloning cylinders, and six years after his death (i.e. a year after the Thrawn trilogy) he emerged with a new army and ultra-powerful World Devastator machines more dangerous than the Death Stars! Really, the plot as given by Wookiepedia is pretty incoherent and OOC, so I don't think I missed too much.

No, the problem in the Thrawn trilogy wasn't that he was a Jedi Master, it was that he was grown too quickly. Any clone grown to maturity in a short amount of time (less than a year, I think?) goes nuts, whether Jedi or not--after the end of the Clone Wars, according to the Zahn Trilogy, they had a whole batch of clones that went nuts because they'd been grown too fast. That's why they freak out that Thrawn's clones were grown so fast--obviously, he figured out what nobody else had, and this means he's smart, and also growing clones in a few months instead of a few years means it takes a very very short time for him to get a really big army. What Thrawn realized is that if you put Ysalamiri to block the Force around the tanks as the clonse are grown, they don't go nuts--as the clones grow there is a Force resonance with the original and any other clones growing at the same time, and if you don't give the clone time to adapt they snap, but if the Force is suppressed around the clone(s) obviously there is no way a Force resonance can be created and you can grow them as fast as you like.

One wonders, now that you mention it, what that would do to someone with Jedi powers ...
