According to my ~highly scientific~ poll in my last post, approx. 30-40% of all Dreamwidth users have had songs from Les Miserables stuck in their heads ever since the movie came out.

I don't suppose those of you who are getting more active in the fandom would consider, as a kindness, "earworm warnings" for any quotes from the lyrics (including song titles)?

Although I have gotten quite a lot of cleaning done while unable to concentrate on anything but listening to the soundtrack on repeat, so there's that.

(I tried putting on "Once More With Feeling" instead today; it only took about half an hour before One More Day was back.

I haven't tried Cabaret yet; that's the nuclear option.)

I acknowledge the validity of your choice! It's just, some of us have decided to make the deliberate life choice to not start writing 150,000 word epics about doomed French people. :P And having that soundtrack constantly looping in our heads makes us fear for our resolution.

(I am starting to postulate Highlander crossovers! THIS IS A DANGEROUS FIRST STEP FOR ME.)

Writing a hundred-and-mumblety-thousand-word epic about doomed French people is an excellent life choice. I see no way this could go wrong.

(Especially with Highlander crossovers.)

The problem with the Highlander crossovers is that I want them all to wake up the next morning and turn out to have been pre-Immortals. (Except possibly Grantaire, who is already Methos.) But that would just be ridiculous. :P (It probably wants to be a Five People Who Were Not Immortal fic, but I am not giving in and reading the Brick just for that.)

Unfortunately I seriously doubt I can read just bits of the Brick, since my only experience with it is picking it up on an idle Saturday and getting sucked in for about three hours. (So, hey, I already know all about the Bishop! Luckily after three hours the main plot hadn't started yet, so I could still get away.)

I'm going to need about twenty hours of audiobook later this week; I may try to figure out if the librivox recordings are reasonably listenable....

There appears to be only one fanfic on the internet that contains the names "Grantaire" and "Methos" both. This is a travesty, a travesty okay. (for a second I thought there was a Les Mis/HL crossover on AO3 already but it turned out to be a different Marius. Le sigh.)

...although one I found has 11,000 words and immortal!Valjean so it might be worth a try even if it means reading on ff.net.

I already had the mental conversation with myself about possibilities of Highlander crossovers and quickly discovered that the best way to make the whole Enjolras-Grantaire thing even more depressing is for Grantaire to be an Immortal and for Enjolras to not be.

WRITE THE ONE WHERE ENJOLRAS IS PRE-IMMORTAL AND GRANTAIRE/METHOS TEACHES HIM AFTER. Go on, do it! Methos has a history of that sort of thing! (Of course he also has a history of falling for tragically doomed mortals. bah. so I guess you could write that one too.)

I actually think that one would be harder to write, though, because I can't see it successfully ending up happy between the two of them? Because the thing about the death scene is that it allows Grantaire to only have to live up to Enjolras' ideals for that one shining beautiful moment, and I think he'd be pretty incapable (as things stand) at actually living out those ideals if they both are still alive on the other side.

I really, really want more Temeraire crossovers. There's one little tiny story whose awesomeness taunts me with the glorious epic potential of Frenchboys + dragons.

Actually, I think some of the Inca dragons in Crucible of Gold do...although I am so underwhelmed with Crucible that I stopped reading a few pages from the end back in December and still haven't finished it.
