melannen: Commander Valentine of Alpha Squad Seven, a red-haired female Nick Fury in space, smoking contemplatively (Default)

...wow, the opening monologue of Snow Crash is totally based on the opening of TMNT II

Still reading Punditslash. Especially the one where Keith is a pirate captain and kidnapped Prince Anderson of the Vanderbilts. Have discovered that Casey and Dan of Sports Night were based on Keith Olbermann and his Dan. Except that SportsCenter was apparently slashier in real life. And the guys on the show couldn't *possibly* be as cute as Keith.

(...Mikey sure is having fun playing with those sausages.)

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah. So I have the Sports Night DVDs upstairs. I picked them up cheap a year or so ago, despite being completely uninterested in the show, because I knew people wrote fic for it and I figured sooner or later I'd find a motivation to pick up the fandom. I don't know what's sadder: that I do things like that, or that I was *totally right*.

Then I spent an hour or so paging through the old McCall's and Collier's magazines we have upstairs, playing "Spot the Vanderbilt" in the ads. :P I got five points for Mrs. Benny Goodman and a free space for Amy but didn't manage to score a Gloria. (Lots of Carnegies, though.)

Anyway, pundit fandom is fun. I've haven't dived into a fandom that was quite this young and free and innocent and shameless since my early Harry Potter days. : so many breathless "everybody's gay!" stories, so many endless weepy love affairs, so many utterly cliche-ridden AUs. It's glorious, even if about half of it's completely unreadable to my embarassment squick.

(Wow. Splinter looks like he's dying of mange.)

(...told you it was pitifully easy to pimp me into new things.)

(.. oh man, now it's a porn movie. "I know you didn't order any pizza, Ms. O'Neil, but I thought you might want some of *this*..." Does TMNT fandom have lots of pizza delivery porn? Because it totally should.)

Sports Night is hilariously awesome. Lame at times, yes, and you will want to hit Felicity Huffman's character a few times, but it's still awesome. Also, Isaac Jaffe is so far beyond awesome that you can't even SEE him from awesome, even with really badass binoculars.

..yes, yes, I'm sure I'll be watching it shortly. And then go looking up all the fic I haven't been reading. And then probably start plotting out ridiculous punditslash crossovers where everybody's gay. sigh. Life is hard.

PunditFic truly wins. (I adore the breathless stories and the weepy love affairs and the cliche-ridden AUs!)

What about the western AU? reading that one? *g*

SISTEERRR! I can't *do* the weepy Jon/Stephen love affairs! I tried again but it just doesn't work. When it's cracked, or show-character-based, or carried off with a light hand, fine, but when they start getting all self-absorbed and depressed and overdramatic I start going WHY ARE YOU WEEPING ABOUT YOUR SEX LIFE AND NOT YOUR KIDS. WHO YOU HAVE TOTALLY ABANDONED. YOU SELFISH SELFISH MAN. TAKE THEM TO THE ZOO OR SOMETHING AND GET OVER YOURSELF.

...if they did one where there was angst *and* taking the kids to the zoo, that would be awesome. But it is bad RPS etiquette to put too much of the kids in. So instead, I seem to have to go to the kidless-and-possibly-gay-in-RL characters if I want the angst. D:

Hmm .. okay. Did you read the VLA (http://community.livejournal.com/fakenews_fanfic/51455.html) yet? That link goes to the last story; click the link in the summary there for the story before that with links to all the previous ones. Start it at the BEGINNING and keep going till it squicks you too much or you fall in love with it and can't stop. :D Because for almost all of the story it sounds like it's just what you're looking for; it's only in the last few stories that they seem to have run out of awesome non-self-absorbed ideas and turned to the super-angst. And it's a series of mostly self contained stories, so you can stop anytime.

And Beginner's Love is in the same vein. It's a love story, of course, so it doesn't really have a lot to do with the kids; but when they do show up, it does okay by them.

And now I've just re-watched the HellooOOOoo segments of TDS that were linked with Expecting and I can't read the John Oliver bits of the HS AU because they're coming off too minstrel-showy. D: So much squicky. I'm beginning to see why I've yet to actually manage being in an RPS fandom before.

No pizza delivery porn that I'm aware of. And surprisingly little Keno porn, which is surprising to me. I mean, I know I wasn't the only one who found Ernie Reyes Jr. unbearably hot back in the day.

He was kind of noticeably hot, yes.

I can kind of understand most of that movie not making much of an impression on people, though.
