There's a post going around tumblr from prokopetz about the three types of protagonists, as follows:

1. Pursues reasonable goals with unreasonable methods

2. Has sensible plans, but tremendously fucks up the execution

3. Relentlessly competent in pursuit of goals that are objectively deranged

and he'll do things like decide he's gotta stop the BigBad - which is usually a deranged undertaking if you are a demigod, but Harry manages to be pretty competent at doing it. usually via #2 on the list up there. he does the combo plate a lot of times.
