2. So I have now read Avengers: The Children's Crusade (which was very very omg good, all my YA feels are now reignited after being slightly meh about the Secret Invasion and Dark Reign trades).
Also I really need all the fic about Billy and Teddy and their grandfather and all the different things that family means. (There are only a couple - Trust Me by dangerouscommiesubversive is really really good - but there need to be more.)
(btw I wrote up an outline of the first issue of the YA-set-in-billy-and-teddy's-apartment series. *innocent whistle*)
3. I keep meaning to catch up on replies to everyone else's posts but at this point I am SO FAR BEHIND. I am reading and enjoying them all though!

Oh gosh, there are SO MANY of these. I am totally the person who will listen to your recommendations and nod along sagely, but even if it's something that sounds perfect for me, I can never start reading/watching/listening until the time is right. Sometimes that time is ten years later.
Right now I am in the middle of a much-delayed and very attenuated watch-through of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
I've been meaning to watch it since about 2006. Everybody I know who's watched it really loved it. Everything I've seen about it says I'll love it. I read the recent comics and they're so great.
The first time I tried to watch it I washed up on the voice acting. Something about it - probably the fact that they were using real kids for most of the characters - just grated on me. And the first couple of episodes weren't exactly gripping? But I still wanted to watch it someday, so I just put it aside and figured someday would come.
And then I kept seeing Tumblr gifsets, and I read some fic, and it go to the point where I was afraid to watch any more of it because it still looked so good and surely the canon would just be disappointing.
Then there was the Invisible Ficathon, which I helped tagmod, and therefore was able to see that I wouldn't be matchable with anything I'd asked for or offered, so I threw in Secret Tunnel at the last minute, since it had a (comparatively) large number of offers/requests, and hey I'd been meaning to watch AtLA anyway, right?
I went and found a website that was streaming the Spanish dubs, because I'd heard the Spanish voice actors were great (they were!) which got me about six episodes into Season One and then it stopped being willing to stream, so then I skipped ahead and just watched the beginning of S2 to get what I needed for the fic, and then I decided I was burned out for a bit after doing all that in a weekend.
But it was really good! And people kept saying Korra was getting good too! So later this year I asked a friend who is a bug fan if I could borrow his DVD sets, since then I could watch the Spanish dubs with English subs, and he was delighted, but then it turned out his brother had half his DVDs, so I still couldn't watch the end of S1, and also for some reason my computer's DVD player wouldn't play the subtitles so I had to watch them on the big TV. I tried to start watching again after the Cave of Two Lovers but I got impatient and skipped to Toph instead. Because Toph.
And IMG Toph. Toph makes everything better! I blitzed through the next couple of discs because Toph. But then Ba Sing Se was just SO BORING that I quit the watchthrough for awhile, and then I had a weekend alone in the house and pushed through to the end of S2.
..and then my borrowed DVD sets didn't have the beginning of S3 so I stopped for awhile and still haven't picked it up yet, because it's not very often that I both feel like watching TV and have the big TV to myself and have the energy to watch in Spanish. I suppose I could switch back to English but now that I've gone this far...besides, the animation's really pretty, and if I didn't have to read the subtitles I would zone out on it.
(My mom came in once when I was watching them and rolled her eyes and said "More of that anime stuff, huh?" and I was like "Actually it's an American cartoon. And they're speaking Spanish because I'm watching the Spanish dub." And then she rolled her eyes even harder because she knows me too well to want to know why I am watching an American cartoon set in fantasy Asia in Spanish.)
Anyway just this week I bought a couple of the missing S3 discs at a flea market so maybe I will get back to watching it soon. I could do it over the holiday when I have the TV to myself again except I was planning to spend the holiday watching both series of Cosmos back-to-back (something else I keep trying and failing to watch through.) So I guess we shall see.
SOMEDAY.
And then I can start putting off watching Korra.

TOPH. TOPH IS SO AMAZING. Also the Dangerous Ladies. And Katara and Suki and actually all the ladies are awesome. But Toph is amazing. Earth rumble champion who isn't above earth bending people under tables.

I'm pretty sure if the show was called "Toph: The First Metalbender" the way it was clearly *supposed* to be (at least according to Toph) I would have watched the whole thing twice by now. ^_^

I know that feeling so horribly well. ^^;
Avatar! *^^* I love that show so very much, and twice now I've been able to show it in its entirety to friends who hadn't seen it before, and it holds up so beautifully in rewatching. It took me about half of the first season to bond with it, though, for similar reasons to yours--I was a serious anime fan for long enough that I find English voice acting jarring in general, and yeah, season 1 just plain isn't as strong as seasons 2 and 3. (And yet that doesn't bother me the way Korra's weaker first season[s] does. I love Korra too, and absolutely agree when people say that seasons 3 and 4 are vastly improved over seasons 1 and 2--assuming S4 sticks the landing--but I'll always be sad that it didn't live up to its promise. It had SO MUCH promise.)
Toph is a glory and a joy forever. *^^*
