dresses

Okay, so Con.txt is this upcoming weekend already. And I'm going, probably by way of the metro, which means I'll be hauling a huge backpack around all day, with a Gryffindor logo on it, if anyone wants to find me. (How so soon? Ahh!) And on Friday night there's a theme dance, theme: the 70s. And I can't decide between two outfits. Help?

Exhibit A: The dress that's actually a few years too old to be the 1970s, but I really want an excuse to wear it in public while it still fits me like a glove.

Exhibit B: The dress that *is* from the 1970s. 1976, to be exact. And is very very fun to wear and dance in.

They're neither of them in terribly good condition and require some seam-reinforcing and ironing if I'm going to wear them for more than just dress-up clothes. Mom has also repeatedly tried to give me a "hand-crocheted vest and miniskirt set, you can't get more 70s than that, you could even wear the clown shirt with it!" Which, just. Um.

I'm in the minority, but I like the second one. Looks comfy and definitely danceable.

You're not too far behind, though. It's definitely comfortable. And more fun the more pettcoats I wear.

You didn't get around to making a BL clip vid, did you? Boo.

Nope, alas. I was thinking it was after the wedding and I'd have a chance to make one at your place.

... you could still do it and send it to me, though!

I could! Maybe I will. How long is it supposed to be? It's just supposed to be clips strung together, right, as in not-set-to-music?

It might be all from S2, so I won't have to rip anything.

Pimping session

Multi-fandom

A session in which people actively pimp their fandoms, in brief, coherent presentations. Can include handoust with links, newsgroups etc.. (A/V aids a plus!!!)

Assuming it's still on - I can't find it in the panel schedule yet - it'll be an hour-long session for anyone who wants to go up and talk and show off; for an A/V aid - it could be set to music or it could be just clips, or even a PowerPoint with screencaps, I presume. But don't make it any longer than a short vid, I'd say.

E-mail me or link me something by Thursday and I'll slap together CDs or handouts to go with! Otherwise I may just hang out, and go up and babble about DENNY CRANE if it gets quiet. (Not that I won't be doing that anyway...)

I like the first one a lot. They're both nice, but the first one is cuter, and tends to fit more into a 70's dance theme, despite not actually being from the 70s. :)

(late 50s?)

Mid sixties. :D Mom's college days.

Spiffy! So it's actually not far off the '70s chronologically, either. :D

The 2nd one was handmade by my grandmother for my cousin to wear as a "period" costume for 1976's United States Bicentennial celebrations. q-: Not sure of the pattern she used, but a good bet would be Simplicity #4862 (http://home.flash.net/~jccmf/S4862.JPG) from 1954, since it's pretty much the same cut as two other "colonial" dresses we have, which were sewn by the same lady for a previous generation to wear to the 1957 Troy Ohio Sesquicentennial.

It's #1 - the mandarin-esque black one with the jacket - that I know nothing about. I'm pretty sure it was bought off-the-rack sometime around 1966, but there's no tag or marking of any kind that I can find.
