So I spent the weekend with my sister and her cat (Again.)

Here is a picture of me with my sister's cat. )

I have another laptop! She belonged to my sister's friend from work, and she didn't want to haul her with her when she moved, so she's mine now!

Since it appears that nobody's bothered to properly name her before, I hereby christen her Nyx, for the Greek goddess of the primordial night and mother of Charon and Eris, and also for the Norse river spirits and the moon of Pluto. Because the dark and depthless river of chaos flows through her heart. )
(It pulsates, too. In time with my heartbeat and the music!)

Other than that, and the fact that her battery is completely inert, she's in perfectly good condition! (Well, I'm not sure if wireless internet works on her yet, since I seem to have lost my wireless card *really* well. More worringly, I think said card was with all the little leftover bits from the last time I took the other laptops apart. But where is it all? Mystery.)

Anyway, her previous owner deleted most of the personal stuff, but left all of her old pirated media files on for me, so I put all the music files in WinAmp. In alphabetical order. And so I am learning about the hell of being a pop music fan. I mean, I've never been anything *approaching* a music snob; I like listening to everything, and the viral pop group stuff is usually at least as good as anything else out there. Out of context, anyway. A whole bunch of it, unrelieved, in one dose, and I felt the *urgent* need to pull out my Smothers Brothers tapes. Or possibly listen to some piano sonatas. Or possibly stand in the middle of the road and scream. (I suppose it doesn't help that Alanis Morissette and Avril Lavigne both start with "A"...)

ETA: So, on the off chance that any computer-knowy people are reading this: Any idea how to *tell* the computer that only the top half of its screen works? Change the resolution to, say, 1280 x 500 pixels? It ought to be doable, but I'm beginning to fear it'd mean fiddling with drivers. The horror!

ETA2: I found the wireless card! bwahahaha! Now I can lj from bed again!
