melannen: Commander Valentine of Alpha Squad Seven, a red-haired female Nick Fury in space, smoking contemplatively (Default)

I'm here in my mind

*Cracks up all over again* That was the most metafandomy SG1 episode *ever*. Talk about the difference between watching a show as it happens and seeing it all condensed into one storyline. Talk the difference between being part of a fandom and being a lurker, and authorial intent. Talk about pure uncut fourth-wall bending *joy*. (I have a feeling it would have been a rather ehh episode if not for the metafandom joy, actually, but still. And no, I don't see myself in Joe at all.)

In celebration, a crossover drabble that probably nobody on my flist will get. Except maybe [livejournal.com profile] stellar_dust if she's still watching Sci-Fi Friday:

Acceptance (100 words)

Joe opened another rejection letter, and sighed, ready to quit. A magazine had come too, by a publisher who'd rejected him, and he opened it halfheartedly.

"What is it, Joe?" his wife asked patiently.

"More rejections. I don't understand it! I mean, Stargate has *got* to be better than this crap they're publishing! Look at this one: prehistoric viruses and hybrid children and this guy who killed JFK. And they thought the *replicators* were cliche."

His wife shrugged. "You know I'm not into that science fiction stuff."

Joe shook his head. "What has Jack Colquitt got that Jack O'Neill doesn't?"

I'm telling you, there's like three dozen plots that all sf shows are *required* to go through in their run.

Although now I'm upset that all those lovely Wormhole X-Treme fics have been made non-canon. And I'm getting the scary urge to get back into drabbling again, too.

Oh, and those two fest fics I've been talking about are both up now: White Hallows, at [livejournal.com profile] earthsea_fic, and Skylark (which is such a crappy title), batfic/PotC, at To Timfinity...and beyond.

Now to catch up on a week's worth of comments and stuff that I've been ignoring.

Edit: That was... random yet surreal. The guys who drunkenly kicked in my door last week after the Duke game just showed up to apologize and flirt.

Well, you can be assured that you're at least *partially* correct. o_o

*reads Skylark*
Wow... Captain Wayne is no pirate, indeed. o_O;

*holds off on reading White Hallows, for lack of Earthsea experience.*

You got your door kicked in?

*watches WJZ morning news story about the rioting*

Oh.

*Is less surprised*

Well, not so much "kicked in" as "kicked open", but, yeah. 'm probably lucky nothing worse has happened to me than that, after four years on campus.

*snerk* hahaha, that's awesome ..

Yeah, I watched it. It was one of those that fans *love* and non-fans go "ehhhhhhhh" at. I went "ehhh" loudly but didn't stop watching. d-:

haha .. were they cute and/or nice, or just annoying?

*bed*

Well, I have a feeling SG1 fans found it rather annoying, since there was sueishness and a lack of the main characters, but as a fan of *fandom* I was squeeing. (;

They were reasonably good-looking in that interchangeable frat-boy way. And one of them saw the bumper sticker on my door and wanted to start talking local politics (at three in the morning, mind, and me in my pajamas), and they invited me to a party which I respectfully declined. So, slightly annoying but not in a bad-hearted way.

yay, I'm probably nobody! Though admittedly without you to explain these things while we were watching it I wouldn't have been too excited by it, most of my enjoyment was secondhand..

So, does that mean you get it or you didn't? Because I don't *think* I mentioned the honorable Mr. Bloodworth while you were here. q;

No, but I have seen all 202 X-Files episodes.. admittedly, I slept through parts of some of them, but "Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man" wasn't one of them..

Hee hee! Joe was like Agent Leyla Harrison. I loved when he was like sobbing when he realized Daniel died, etc. Such a cute episode!

Yes! Every show needs a token canonical fanboy/fangirl.
