A quest! A quest!

Okay, so I forwent the night of lonely debauchery and DVD-watching in favor of spending five hours reviewing fanfic. But hey, that was fun too, and I was long overdue to do it.

In fact, I think I shall make a vow: I shall not read any new Harry Potter fanfiction until I have given proper feedback for all I have already read. Or at least all those on my short (hah! as if!) list of really-really-super-good writers.

Perhaps I shall review them here while I'm at it? Some of you real-life type people have asked for recommendations. And it might keep me on track with my resolution.

All right, then, to start, someone who *everybody* should have already read:
A. J. Hall
Her work at Schnoogle, The Dark Arts, Riddikulus, and Astronomy Tower;
and also at Shoesforindustry.net
A. J. Hall was my introduction to H.P. fanfic, and she's one of the best writers working. Period. She's written one major novel-length, Lust Over Pendle, which despite the title, and despite being about Neville and Draco as lovers, is really a rollicking good and exceedingly funny adventure story "in the Golden Age detective thriller genre." I can't commend it too highly-- just start reading.

Her other works are set earlier in the same continuity. To start with something shorter and stand-alone, try The Mark of the Beast, a wonderfully creepy Lupin story, or Queer as Scent, the story of a pregnant Narcissa Malfoy, a Dark Lord, and a vixen having a seriously bad day.

This is a double post...

This a a double-post from a comment I made on a previous journal entry about 5 minutes ago. I'm not quite sure how livejournal handles comments on past entries, so I figured I'd post here, too...

With V-- err... you-know-who's distaste for mudbloods, wouldn't the idea of crossbreeding be a disgusting notion to Him?

Besides, Harry can't be the first person to be born of a purblood wizard and a mudblood, can he?

Actually, now that I think of it...

Unless I'm reading way wrong, isn't Biggie-V's father a muggle? Now that makes me more confused...

Actually if I recall rightly Riddle's Father a muggle. But even more interesting, wasn't his mother a mud blood?

Riddle's father was a Muggle, who abandoned his wife on finding out she was a witch.

Riddle's mother was the last survivor of one of the oldest wizarding bloodlines, traceable back to Salazar Slytherin Himself. If she catches you calling her a mudblood, she will hex your intestines out your ears.

This works just like a message board-- comments on old entries come up fine; you can get e-mails to make sure you notice them.

He wouldn't be the first, but he would be the first that Y-K-W had to experiment on . . .

Oh! And while I'm here....
