ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
This system doesn't have enough RAM to run the basic UBUNTU livecd. And it seems to also refuse to run the installer if it can't run the livecd.
Watch my respect for the distro drop precipitously!*
Watch me have a minor breakdown!
We are now starting the short countdown to "give up already and just hard-install puppy."
*This system has 256 mb of ram. It runs puppy fully in ram with no problem. It will edit print-quality, multi-layer graphics files - slowly, but it will do them. It will vid. It will play flash games. The hardware will do basically anything you need a basic computer terminal to do. There is *no* #^@$% reason I should need more than this just to run the *installer* for an OS that's legendary for being *not* bloated.
(So much for everybody who said "Ew, Puppy, just run a standard distro on livecd.")

I think I've pretty much given up - I did some google-searches on my current problems, and it just looks like Ubuntu is not designed to work on older systems unless you're already expert-level at customizing. Since the point was to install something I wouldn't have to constantly mess with, I think I'll just be hard-installing the distro that I already having working on livecd.
