stargate crossover fun
Over ten million years ago, a group of the people who would later become known as the Ancients made the first of many voyages of colonization out of their home galaxy. They traveled by ship, a one-way trip, for hyperdrives in those days were cranky and unreliable, and Stargates merely a dream and a theory. At the end of their journey they found a galaxy teeming with life, a million forms sentient and otherwise, but no civilization nearly so technologically advanced as their own. They spread over a thousand worlds, teaching and ruling and thriving, and carrying with them the precursors of what would later be the hallmarks of their technology; among them, telepathic controls, genetic markers, zero-point energy, wormholes, and Ascension.
The first experimental wormhole back to Earth was opened just in time for it to bring a terrible plague, a devastate their society. Wormhole research became taboo in their galaxy, and their great empire but a memory. But memories become myth, and myth becomes faith, and small groups of their descendants carried forward the old knowledge, in new and unpredictable combinations...
The team calmly embarked through the stargate on what should have been a routine exploratory mission to P30-2D2, and emerged with violently altered velocity and trajectory. The only thing which prevented serious injury was the thick mass of plant life which was grown up wildly all around; it was as if they had been thown into a giant green net. The area around the gate was entirely drowned in green; the wormhole's backwash had made a small, charred clearing, which was the only reason they had space to move.
"Lucky this plant thing's here, really," Daniel Jackson said, apropos of nothing, as they picked themselves up and unwound themselves from the undergrowth.
Jack O'Neill stared at him until he shrugged sheepishly. "Well, it *is*," he said, brushing a broken tendril off his shoulder. "That would have been a rough landing."
Jack decided to ignore him and called out, "Everyone all right?"
"I am uninjured, O'Neill," Teal'c reported.
"Same here, sir," said Sam Carter. "A bit bruised and tangled, but fine."
"I'm okay too, Jack."
"Great," he said, straightening his cap. "So, what the *hell* just happened?"
Major Carter shook her head, then winced and shoved a leafy frond out of her face. "Sir, I'm not certain, but this reminds me of the time on P4A-771, when an energy surge made the gate jump to a new destination."
"I thought of that too, Carter," Jack said. "But look, no ice! Just trees. Lots and lots of trees. Just like the MALP showed."
"Yes, but, Jack," Daniel said, waving a hand expansively, "No MALP. No DHD."
"And I do not believe that the preliminary data included the presence of Goa'uld temples," Teal'c added.
They all twisted to look in the same direction as Teal'c, back toward the gate they had emerged from.
