List of Dreamwidth issues so far

  1. Signing up with an invite code gives you a list of your inviter's communities, and offers to let you join them. But the list shows up *before* you get a chance to set your age, so any adult-restricted communities are still blocked. This led to me panicking for several seconds that there had been a chance to set age, and I had missed it. I suggest that setting age (for adult-rescriction purposes) come earlier in the sign-up process.

  2. There's still references to "friend" a bunch of places, but I assume the site copy team doesn't need people telling them all the stuff like that; they're on it. Also, "trust" and "access" are not consistently used yet. they're on it. But I should still keep an eye out for "trust".

  3. I love, love, love that we get more options for colors when adding friends (even if none of the site themes let me use them yet!) but it doesn't work at all properly for me (on Opera 9.6 with pop-ups set to need approval.) The pallette comes up as a blank pop-up, but the browser seems to think that there's an area on the original window that's a pallette; I can click on white-screen in this area and change the set colors. This is probably an Opera issue - I get the blank pop-ups a lot - but the invisible palette was just *weird*!

  5. It would be nice if we had the extended palette on the manage circle page, too, not just the initial subscription page. And the old drop-down on the subscription page? (also, I've always found the manage friends page on LJ annoying, and the DW doesn't seem to have improved on it any. Can't we change colors without having to re-type everybody's name as if we're re-adding them? Especially since the colors are now much more visible on the main chart. And I'm still unclear on community subscription/membership on there.)

  6. OpenId accounts are not alphabetized on people's list of subscribers on profile pages.
  7. Already reported.

  8. In general I love the organization of the site, but I keep looking for an edit profile option *on* my actual profile page. Especially since the "edit userpics" link is *right there*, and so is the little pencil that means "edit" everywhere else.
  9. this is there - I was just to stupid to see it. Probably just a me-still-hating-the-new-profiles issue. But may be worth a mention.

  10. I love being able to link to off-site users with user tags, but they really need to be distinguished somehow from DW ones. I *think* this is already planned to happen and they just need graphics people? But maybe I just assumed it would be, and missed it.
  11. They're on it.

  12. I wish I could set my profile page to show *only* reading people, and not trust people, because I don't really use trust much (or see myself using it), and I'd love for who trusts me to be private, and it looks very untidy as is.
  13. Have decided I like this as is.

  14. clicking on openIDs in comments should take me *somewhere*. Preferably, the site it looks like it links to. Right now it either jumps me down the comment thread, or to my own profile page. And why do some openIDs show the ext number, and some the name twice? It doesn't seem to have anything to do with validation.
  15. Fixed!

  16. security settings - the entry and comments security doesn't currently make it clear where openID users stand (specifically, that validated openID accounts are "registered users" and unvalidated ones are "everybody"), which is confusing for registered users and new openID people
  17. They're on it, for open beta at least.

  18. Switching from html to Rich Text in the web posting interface screws up line breaks & tries to add a closing </user> tag if you have a user tag.
  19. Reported to domtheknight via pm.

  20. When you change your notification settings, new boxes should not appear checked! Confusing, and made me think I'd already played with those settings.

  21. tags, music, etc. don't show up in preview (in the new black style, anyway)
  22. Reported to domtheknight via pm

  23. my music links links to whatever page I'm currently on? Nobody else's seems to. I wonder if it'll do that in this post, too. Update: it seems to only do it if there's a - in the music title, and to do it on all reading pages and on the actual entry page, but not on "recent entries".
  24. Reported to domtheknight via pm.

  25. I want to view comment pages in site scheme!!!! style customizing is properly working, I'd #$%^<#$ better be able to! (I use links from the site menu on comment pages *so much*, I can't stand not having them there.)
  26. Here for open beta, hopefully.

  27. I tried to use the tutorial for putting in my own custom style using the advanced customization page, but it failed to work - it would try to compile, show errors but apparently finish & save, but whenever I went back to the style/layer, it would be blank. This may be because a) they'd just pushed the style update and it didn't work any more, b) the style I was trying to port was borken, or c) Opera was having issues, like it sometimes does with on-page editing. I will be messing with this more later.
  28. Due to the S2 push, but should still mess with.

If anybody else finds any issues trying to play with the site, they can comment here.

I was making a parallel list of "things that are awesome", but it got too long. :D

I do *adore* the new menus, though. I'm so used to badly organized sites that I automatically go to the logical place for an item, then go to the least-obvious without even looking because it's *never* in the logical place, -- and then I have to go back, because on DW, it *is*.

Also the inbox and the navigation bar are actually useful OMG! And the new user and cut and such tags! And, and, and!!!

1) [profile] domthenknight or [staff profile] denise

2) they are on it, but site doc issues go to [personal profile] rho

3) domtheknight

4) bug has been reported

5) I'm about to report; it's the sort of thing that goes to domtheknight

6) domtheknight (or denise)

7) you know ... i'm not entirely sure that there's a generic off-service head planned. I went ahead and added it to the icons bug

8) Not showing your trust list has already been rejected, on the theory that people commenting in someone else's locked posts should have at least some guess as to who else might see. Wouldn't want me to be slagging off on [profile] exampleusername in your comments, only to discover she's also reading your locked posts. Send denise a note on the question of not displaying who trusts you.

9) Take notes on this and report to dom w/ as much detail as you can. Are you seeing this on the pink/gray pages or just the black/white pages? Which accounts are being affected?

10) talk to denise about that. it's ... complicated

11) domtheknight

12) domtheknight. I'm pretty sure this is carryover behavior from LJ, and I'm pretty sure it's done so people won't submit the notification change w/o checking *any* boxes, and then get pissed they're not subscribed to anything.

13) [personal profile] afuna for styles. might also cc dom

14) domtheknight

15) this is a combo thing of being able to set a style where entry pages are system (this will come when the style system is up) and being able to impose your style on everyone's journal (paid user perk.)

16) you can switch your journal back to using core1. When you create your Layer at http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/advanced/layers.bml, make sure you change it from using core2 to using core1. It should probably compile okay, then.

pink/grey is the sitescheme. black/white is the current default style for anyone who doesn't have a style on their journal, Negatives Black. [Your journal is currently Negatives black] (white/black is much rarer; it's the core 2 testing style, and you have to specifically set your journal to use it.)

I was hoping for more customization on when to show the info/header bar. If the option "show it to only me" existed, that's what I would use - I like it, but I don't want to impose it on anyone who comes to my journal if the don't want it - even logged-out users.

.. this is largely because the taskbar is REALLY obnoxious when the journal gets embedded in a website; but I've now managed to fix it with css, so I don't care so much. But I still care a little bit. :D

If (3) is an Opera issue, it's also a FireFox issue - I don't see the boxes-to-the-right either, but I *can* click on them. It is indeed oododd.

It's doing the same thing on my work computer Firefox - AND IE on my work computer (I actually didn't check it in IE on my laptop). Also on IE the box with the username in it is positioned so it's partly under the "background" options.

Should I mention these couple of things to someone, or are you on it?

talk to denise about it, but I'm not sure you'll get anywhere. There's a bit of wariness about option overload.

(I am, of course, referring to InsaneJournal embedding, and assuming it will work the same way on DW.)

Well, you can log in from it, which is nice. But I don't really want to log in from my website, or let anyone else do that, either, unless they've already clicked through to the journal proper to read comments or whatev.

I bet 5 is because the system sees openIDs as ext_number instead of the username.site.com and that the OpenIDs on your list are in number order.
