So I guess my sister and I will be in Washington DC for inauguration day Tuesday. (It is not the wise thing to do, no. But the main thing I regret is always choosing the wise thing to do, so we're going to go fly for once.)

Anybody know any fun places to visit in DC that aren't within the blast radius of the National Mall and might be open? We may wander toward the Aquatic Gardens or the National Zoo, but tiny obscure museums in the rest of the city would be a) fun and b) out of the weather.

I wonder if the Folger Shakespeare Library will be open... Renaissance Journalism sounds really cool.

There's probably not a lot to see at the Aquatic Gardens right now since all of their stuff is outside (I'm assuming you mean the one down in Kennilworth.) The science museum I worked at will be open - Koshland Science Museum. (http://www.koshland-science-museum.org/events/upcomingevent.jsp?id=329) That's on 6th and E NW by Chinatown. It looks like the Phillips (http://www.phillipscollection.org/) is going to be open. I was going ot suggest the Bead Museum but they apparently closed permanantly the end of December. I had no idea.

omg why am I still awake and googling museums?

Ooh, both of those sound like excellent possibilities!

(I'm just sad right now that the NMHM (http://nmhm.washingtondc.museum/) is going to be closed...)

Awesome, That the best way I have ever heard that concept put.
I wish I could suggest a few sites to visit, but this time of the year and excluding the National Mall I'm all out. Have Fun!
