Ahaha as I was scrolling down before I got to the rec this was THE STORY I was thinking of! I actually thought at some point I had tried to find it online again and couldn't anymore (maybe I wasn't keeping the right track of which lj clones had gone kaput), which made me pretty glad that I had already downloaded it (copying the text chapter by chapter!) back in the day.
