Hi! I'm still here. It's been a time, huh.
Right now my main joy in fandom is watching TOG fans on Tumblr slowly come to terms with how old Andy actually is and what that means, as someone who has been measuring human history in "Methos lifespans" for most of my adulthood. :D

And how many Methos lifespans are in an Andy?

In the movie they find each other by dreaming about each other until they meet.

Or, how many times Did Steve die prior to Project Rebirth?

Bucky died of the drugs several times but no one in the lab noticed.

"I think you got plumped like a Butterball Turkey by being taffy pulled while dead."
"That's not possible. It hurt too much to be dead."
"Killed too quickly to notice he wasn't alive?"
"What's a Butterball Turkey?"
Steve Rogers still hasn't met that part of the 21st century. Which of The Old Guard spatchcocks a bird for the introduction?

But based on what I have seen I fully believe that back when the Game was invented Andy was already too scary for anyone to want her to join.

"She's centuries more practiced."
"There can only be one. That one can tell Andy."
Passing the buck in Immortal circles.

"If nobody's told her yet they must have a good reason."
"Look at this point it's been almost a century, it would just be awkward."

Basically what I learned from SW is take what you want, ignore the rest!

I am in love with that headcanon.
And yeah, that's mostly how I ended up with Star Wars. I got so bothered by them just throwing out the EU that I went in the complete opposite direction. Only the movies are canon and sometimes not even the movies are canon ;)

My Star Wars canon at this point is "the original radio dramas of the first three and the liner notes from Mom's soundtrack LP + whatever I feel like today". You gotta do what you gotta do! :D

You do not want me to write the fic, if I write the fic it'll be 100 words of Methos and Andy trying to meet up every 100 years in Scotland, but keep getting delayed and so wait around for the other and so Methos winds up spending a couple lifetimes in Scotland waiting for Andy, and then a few centuries later, it's Methos who misses the meet up, and then there's the times where, 10 times in a row, Methos drags his asshole brothers with him, and then one time he doesnt and Andy's like "hey where's the entourage" and Methos has to be like "well, I threw Kronos down a well"...
and yes this would be a drabble ;)

They bring the new siblings they find. Methos brings the horsemen. Methos stops bringing the horsemen. He cannot emphasize with Andromache's loss when she loses a new brother. Methos lost because he threw his away; nothing was ever taken from him.
A hundred years. They return to Scotland.
"I'm moral," Andromache says this trip, three people with her, one of them new.
For the first time, Methos can feel her.

let us either ignore the moral/mortal typo thing or lean into it but okay the morality issues in the two fandoms are so different because in no way shape or form is methos being like "I am picking who I think is the good guy and fighting for them", whereas that is what Andy is doing. Highlander, it is clear, is a bunch of people just killing each other over very flimsy excuses and/or biological imperatives, because their immortaldar went off and they want the power. A decent metaphor. Whereas Andy doesn't have that kill or be killed problem because she can't be killed (we ignore for now the question of what happens if you chop off her head and don't reunite it with her body, except to say that "each side grows an Andy" seems a possible theory). So they're going around fighting in wars as a hobby/vocation/mercenary career. Andy and the Old Guard are pretty much volunteers for that; they can leave at any time. Methos tries to outrun the game and lasts two hundred years. Probably he's tried to do it before, the whole "Methos hangs out as a monk on holy ground for centuries" thing is a trope for a reason. But if Methos wants to avoid killing people in the long term, it's in lifestyle change as pre-emptive self defense, either living on holy ground, or staying as far away from people as possible so as to avoid other Immortals. All the talk about where did Andromache get her name that she uses... Methos doesn't use his name, because it's dangerous, and even with that, it's probably not his first one for him either. Methos has another dude even going around using his name and he's fine with that; let all the challengers go to that guy instead.
And that also speaks to the sizes of their societies. Why are there only a handful of OG Immortals? I must assume there are actually a lot more of them and they clump together in who can dream of who, so there's other groups of five or so Immortals all over the place, because otherwise it's just so weird. And they can't sense each other; they need the metaphysical connection to "sense" each other, and even then, it's not proximity: as soon as they have proximity, they lose it! So it brings them together and if they stay together after, that's up to them. Whereas HL Immortals always have that proximity alarm and can't recognize each other from it; they always have that frisson of warning. (I suspect once cell phones are everywhere, Immortals who live together will text to say "I'm right outside of range" so that you know it's that person and don't have to go for the sword). HL Immortals can sense each other. What they do after that is up to them and they either have a culture of murder or they have a biological imperative.
but the fact that they can kill each other is key. OG Immortals have to live with each other, or live only with mortals, they don't have the third option of killing each other. I don't know if their metaphysical connection also helps them stumble over each other; it does not seem to from what I can tell. They have to make the choice to meet. If they choose to let go of that choice, magic will not help them resolve it. Whereas HL Immortals just have to drive around town and wait for the headache.
and HL immortals, maybe because their society is larger and they meet more people like them, seem to be more open to the idea of change??? the OG immortals are all still doing the jobs they were doing in their first lives, even if in different ways. They make no meaningful new connections with the mortal world and convince Nile to give hers up. They seem to be on repeat. HL Immortals get to have career changes.
maybe OG immortals decide that since they die in war, they have to stay in war forever. HL immortals have to die in some kind of non-natural-death way but it doesn't bind them to what they were doing at their first death. OG Immortals want some kind of purpose. Maybe the HL immortals don't need that because they have the Game? Maybe they don't need to go seek out wars to fight because if they just wait around at home, there's a chance someone will come and dump the war on their doorstep and force them to kill in self-defense or die?
and as for how that first death happens... Methos says he doesn't remember his, Andy's was in war. But Andy from HL Immortal perspective might be seen to have her first death when she dies at a time when she can die and stay dead. If whatever OG Immortal thing just keeps them coming back no matter what, then it can't be a first death from HL perspective. But then she can die (because she's not healing) and then I guess she does die, and then can shift into HL Immortals. Which has to ignore that her OG Immortality has to have "activated" at some kind of first death to freeze her at that age, one assumes, and also, probably they weren't all magically healing all injuries before the first death. But it'd be great if they were.
with the actor age differences, we've got either Andy as the older sister, and/or we have Methos getting his first death before Andy did. Was Andy watching her brother and wondering if it would happen to her, and then it did? It's in a different way, but if there aren't other HL Immortals around, they may not know that. Methos wouldn't know he's meant to be feeling quickenings. And it's not like he knows about the beheading. There could be the moment the first time Methos feels another Immortal and Andy doesn't, and the first time Andy gets her head cut off and doesn't die, and all the times they realize they're different kinds of immortals but were both given this opportunity. And what they do with it.
