• a post about putting favorite characters on "too cool for school/just wants to be a good boy" axes spun off from china_shop's very scientific guardian poll because my attempt at doing it spun off into thoughts on power/race/gender vs. tropes vs. sf settings that play with both, and why black panther is so great; and anyway that's too much work to write about;

• the javascript trope sorter that going around vs. the same list on my trope sorter that I posted the day before it turned up

• the fanfic I'm currently trying to finish which was supposed to be on the "write a quick ending and call it done" list, hahaha

• hats, pictures of hats, why I own so many hats, and konmari, because I haven't gotten to the point in the reorganizing project where I am on to hats yet

FYI the current list looks fine on your layout but super weird on my (default styled) reading page - the dots are on separate lines from the text.

Do you need more hats, because I can totally make more hats.

This is my fourth try - the first two had no linebreaks at all, the third one had no Markdown. It looks kind of cool on your reading page though! I'll take it. (not convinced by markdown yet though).

I do not need more hats, I also can make more hats, I occasionally just sit down with a ball of yarn and a crochet hook and end up with another hat without any conscious volition, do you need more hats? If I need another very specific made to order hat I will let you know though!

This seems to be (on my layout at least) because Markdown is putting paragraphs inside the list item elements, which breaks lists styled with list-style-position: inside.

I had a bit of a quick play around to see if I could fix it while keeping that setting, but eventually decided to just override it on my theme's custom CSS with this:
.entry-content li, .comment-content li {
list-style-position: outside;
margin-left: 1.15em;
}

I can do it with crochet but not knitting; I think because knitting still requires more advance planning for me, whereas I can make a dome-like shape with crochet just by starting with a ring of six stitches and then going by feel until I'm done. :D

Knitting is more like baking unless you are short rowing everywhere. Crochet is more about remembering what you did and doing it again the other places you need to.

heh thanks for the shout out. you're of course welcome to share your reading history even if it's "just" id fic. I've been sharing a lot of that and nobody complained so far. XD

and about the markdown people say it's so easy but tbh I find it easier to just type things out in html ;_;

I am sure nobody would have complained if I shared the id fic I've been reading, I'm just not sure I want to share quite that much id here yet. :P I will do it some other week where my porn reading was slightly less monotonous in theme.

I type html for things like italics and links so automatically that it's actually harder to remember to not do it, but I will admit that I like lists a lot and they are very annoying to HTML code but they work a lot better if they are actually formatted properly. So it would be nice if markdown made it simpler for that specifically! So far it has not....

Maybe that's why I like MD so much. As a former typesetter I demand that list decorations hang outside their paragraphs, so list-style-position:outside is the first thing I do when I choose a new style.

So melannen's list looks great in style=mine.

I wouldn't say it's a Markdown feature, it's some kind of CSS/Browser related thing (bug? feature? who knows). Usually the reasoning behind using list-style-position: inside is to fix some other display issue, and the dev will use some other style tricks to make the bullets hang outside the paragraph. (I can't speak for the person who wrote the DW theme I use, this is just my experience.)

Yeah, it's on the long wall in the bedroom, so I can't get far enough away to take a picture of the whole thing. That's the summer load; around October I switch out most of them for the winter versions.

MyGuy made the rack--not that hard, actually. 1x4" with 3/8" Shaker pegs glued in place.No drill press needed--just cut one board at 30° angle and used that as a guide. Couple molly bolts for each board.
