some things

I have been told of two random pairing generators based on the the shiptoast generator I posted for other people to modify:
*BUFFYVERSE OTP GENERATOR by [profile] thenewbuzzwuzz
*Ensemble Stars Pairing Generator by [personal profile] 22degreehalo.

Hooray for people learning to make their own web scripts! (I think my own coding farr may have subsided for another couple few years, so I can get other stuff done. Maybe.)

I had a friend visiting this weekend (We got some very important house-related things done, and also unrelatedly I acquired too many new books again) (also for the first time in my life I bought new underpants just so I could go longer without doing laundry, I feel like that's a major life milestone I should record) and by the time I was staring at DW again I was at ?skip=160!

*[community profile] thisweekmeta exists as a new meta newsletter comm! DW is being as DW as possible about it again. :P (I have seen a few people saying "I won't bother to link because I know you'll see it all on the meta comm", btw, and I just want to say please link anyway, if that's a thing you do! If you link, I know you wanted me to see it, and that's important information.)

*There are three comms that have lasted almost the entire history of DW that I keep thinking of in the meta meta discussions and the community-creation discussions, because they all use(d) basically the same method: structured encouragement of members to make their own recs posts. They're all communities I'd recommend and would love to see more activity on, too:
**[community profile] fanart_recs signs up people every week to rec fanart in a certain fandom (this is where I look at most of my fanart these days, so I can't sign up, but I really enjoy looking at what gets recommended) - [personal profile] ratcreature has kept this one going, afaict, mainly with sheer grit and determination.
**[community profile] fancake picks themes/tropes by popular vote, and then for the next month, members posts fanwork recs for that theme/trope. The variety of rec'ers and variety of themes means a lot of good hidden gems show up there. [personal profile] jerakeen has been doing the work to keep this one going.
**[community profile] poetry is for posting good poetry! It was started with people being scheduled for a week of posting to keep it going, + free posting by anyone at any time. That got it enough momentum that it's been running on free posting with very little mod input for quite awhile, though.

And, in the spirit of [community profile] poetry, here is a thing from the depths of the old WIPs files, which I think was made by me in a fit of despair, but if not, I'd be happy to find another credit!

This Art (very closely after Elizabeth Bishop)

The art of writing isn’t hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be wrote that their writing's no disaster.

Write something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of writing isn’t hard to master.

Then practice writing farther, writing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you thought.
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

I wrote my mother's watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three loved houses wrought.
The art of writing isn’t hard to master.

I wrote two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I wrote, two rivers, a continent.
They're mangled, but it wasn’t a disaster.

—Even writing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan’t have lied. It’s evident
the art of writing’s not too hard to master
though it may look like (Lose it!) like disaster.

I suspect you meant [personal profile] ratcreature has been keeping [community profile] fanart_recs going!
