update

Hi! I am back from beach! Have been back for a week, actually, but have been suffering under the misapprehension that I will get pictures in a state that I can post them, so have not updated yet.

Beach was great.

Also for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, I have gotten the collection of Nat Geo maps out of the attic and cataloged them. We have over half the maps published between 1955 and 1995, *not even counting* the ones currently serving as wallpaper in my bedroom. (which I have not cataloged yet.)

Someone convince me I don't need to try to be a completist and collect the rest. Please.

MORE IMPORTANTLY THOUGH:: Archive of Our Own was ONE VOTE SHORT of being a Hugo Award finalist this year????

I kinda want to sign up to vote again to see if we can actually get it all the way through next year, but Hugo voting is hard work and I have all that FMK to get through anyway. :/ (Also Le Guin's last collection won that category, and deserved to. Still! I came within a hair of having something I sorta helped work on be a Hugo finalist! That's within a hair of sorta getting something off my livelong wildest dreams list.)

I will continue to nominate AO3 from now until doomsday. Note that you don't have to vote on every category -- this year I didn't cast a vote in BDPSF or podcasts or editors, on the basis of insufficient familiarity and insufficient time to remedy that.

I've shot the work out of a t-shirt cannon on the platform where I have the most followers; maybe if I just lay here unable to read many books, someone else will take the idea and run with it.

Remind me before nominations next year and I'll nominate it!

Now I feel bad because I could have nominated AO3 and forgot to. DAMNIT. I'm pretty sure I did *last* year, but I forgot this year.

Will do so every year from now on.

I didn't take it as you accusing me, don't worry! I was just annoyed with myself, considering how material AO3 is and has been to my happiness.

I nominate every year I can, and my personal policy is that my only criteria for nominating are

1. I have personally read / seen / consumed the Thing
2. I think it's good enough for a Hugo

So sometimes that results in me nominating one thing in a category because it's the only eligible Thing I have personally consumed and come to an opinion on, and sometimes (e.g. short fiction since I started making a concerted effort to read more short fiction) having to cut my shortlist wayyy down in order to fit.
