Pac Rim!
I just saw Pacific Rim uprising! This review is 100% accurate in every way and I don't really have much to add.
Except I'm pretty sure I know which slash fic Burn Gorman was reading to prep for the role because the plot of that movie was basically "What if Designations Congruent With Things but in a universe where slash didn't exist".
(OMG Designations Congruent with isn't up anymore?? AAUGGH where will I go to wallow. Other than my downloaded pdf of it I guess.)
Also, I really hope people are writing OT3 for this movie, because wow was movie that OT3 bait.
Anyway, here is my traditional post-movie-viewing ficlet. It is a direct sequel to Easy Pickings, a previous post-movie-viewing ficlet.

"What the hell, Gottlieb?" the kid said as the door closed behind him. He could hardly have been older that Pentecost's new copilot - giving him twenty years would be generous.
Then it clicked, and Newt squinted. "Dr. Hamada?" He remembered reading a few months ago that the young man had defended his disseration, not beating out Newt, but damn close.
"I mean," Hiro said, "You asked me for advice--"
"I don't remember asking," Newt muttered.
"--and I said forget giant monsters and robots, drone swarms are the future, and at least you listened to me! But what did you program the swarm to do?"
"I--" Gottlieb started.
"What did you program it to do? You programmed it to go to the big monsters and make them into an even bigger monster."
"In my defense, they were still using giant robots."
"That's because they hired you to build them drone swarms, and you fucked it up," Hamada said. "Jesus christ, either they scrambled your brain even worse than they told me, or Hermann's right and you were trying to sabotage the Precursors all along. A drone swarm that turns a giant monster into an even more giant monster." He threw his hands up. "And I used to admire you!"
"What are you doing here?" Newt asked, finally.
"I figured, since Dr. Shao saved the world and all, I could give her a few weeks' break to get her company back together before I rev mine up enough to be a direct competitor," he said.
"And you decided to vacation at the scenic Shanghai Shatterdome?" Newt would have waved an arm demonstratively but they still had him shackled.
"Dr. Gottlieb asked me for a favor," Hamada said. "I am the world's foremost expert at rescuing people who are trapped in other dimensions."
"I'm not trapped in another dimension. I'm right at home here, me." He smiled as best he could.
"Yeah, you're fine, you're exactly where you belong, but what about poor Alice?"
Newt nearly knocked the chair over before he remembered he couldn't stand up and lunge at him. "You stay away from Alice!"
Hamada pulled a device from a pocket and frowned at a reading on it. "Hmm, interesting. Anyway, things to do, people to meet. Talk to you later!"
