1. \o/ I wrote 1700 words today after about a week of not much! On yuletide, even! Unfortunately not my assigned yuletide, but we try. Now, can I do that for all of November?

2. I am really excited for my actual assignment but I have a pile of background reading about a foot high to do as much of as I can first, and I keep adding to the pile. Raise your hand if you're surprised.

3. I.. may or may not actually get around to writing a letter...? YT writer, you're fine with what's in the assignment email and in the old letters, right? Nothing has changed I promise.

4. I am not doing super-well with, like, keeping up with life. But then this is the time of year when my body thinks I should be preparing to hibernate. And I think work is getting more back into a routine? Maybe? If they manage to fix the roof before it falls in?

5. I finished rewatch of S1 of Leverage! I forgot that my tragedy in that fandom is that all I actually want out of it is a long, meaty, hilarious pre-canon fic about Nate and Sophie chasing each other all over Europe. But I cannot write it because the bits of backstory are spread out over many, many canon episodes and I am not a person who can consume AV fandoms in a way that will let me collate all that. And all the current fandom gives me is The Best OT3 Ever, and don't get me wrong, I love them all and I love their canon OT3, but. The Golden Trio basically already have figured out who they are and have decided they like who they are and the only problem they need solved is finding other people who agree with them about liking who they are, and they've pretty much got that solved by halfway though S1, the rest is all details. Sophie, on the other hand. Sophie has layers. (I really really love the fact that the S1 ender that you expected to be all about Nate and his manpain ended up actually being about Sophie's issues and Sophie's past. Sooophie. Every time I tried to write OT3 it ended up being about Sophie and figuring out Sophie is HARD so I never finished anything.)

(now I remember, I stopped watching in the first place because Sophie left. At least now I know she definitely comes back after.)

Other things I would like that the fandom is not giving me: Sophie/Eliot. Maggie/Parker. Five-way found family telepathic soulbond (which is basically canon already, the way they use the earbuds thematically is SO GREAT, now I just need the post-canon fic where Nate and Sophie are off on a cruise somewhere and start hearing the other three on a job even though they don't have earbuds in.)

jjhunter and I have been talking about Ancillary London (or maybe Rivers of the Radch?) You should come join us.

Also somebody needs to convince me I don't actually need to read The Science of Discworld in order to write Rivers of Ankh-Morpork. Even if Peter Grant probably has read it already.

I have the first comics trade but haven't read it yet because I have been reading Peter as looking vaguely like, oh, Rainbow Sun Franck c. SGA, and Thomas looking vaguely like Tim Gunn or sth, and at least judging by the cover, that is really not where the comic went with character designs, so I am scared.

7. Also I keep switching between Fivethirtyeight to obsess and Leverage to watch evil corrupt billionaires cry, which was a mistake, because now I want a story about the *other* Nate being the mastermind of a team of the world's greatest criminals. And they were a YT nom. And they could pull off a great caper plot, I am convinced. Whiz Kid Harry drinking his endless bottles of diet root beer that he somehow finds even in the middle of Antarctica. I just can't think of anything I want to see them steal.

If I make it all the way through canon I may try, but given my speed, that'll probably be June. If I don't get distracted. Meanwhile, somebody else should!

(Just. The way the show signals "shit is getting real" by "someone has cut off our ability to hear each others' thoughts at all times, how will we manage." It's so great. And there's no accidental earbud-related telepathic soulbond teamfic out there, I checked, just some OT3 bonding stuff that doesn't use the earbuds at aLL.)

I did not even know I wanted this but now it is the thing I want most in the world.

It's been years IDK how it hasn't magically appeared yet.

Yesss I too would like more Sophie. And Sophie/Eliot. And telepathy.

Sophie/Eliot would not be Happy Every After but I could see it as a keeping-company thing really anytime before Nate gets his crap together enough for Sophie and before Eliot marries the other two.

That, and I would also enjoy Sophie&Eliot at any point, even post-canon keeping in touch.

I am right there with you re: no. 2. Every year it's 'Yay, Yuletide assignment!' immediately followed by 'What ~~fascinating~~ relevant non-fiction tome that I haven't read can I get from the library for this Yuletide this year? ...ooo, make that two'.

Parker is pretty great it's true.

Sophie is definitely the hardest of the Leverage crew to write. But I heart her and Nate together so much and if you ever figure out their pre-show caper I am SO THERE. There's an ep in season 5 (I don't know if you've watched all of it) which is an art heist ep which is basically the Nate-and-Sophie-are-married show and it is one of my favs.

I love Sophie and Eliot too, though I don't ship them I love reading friendship fic.

Sophie and Eliot would definitely be a friends-with-benefits thing, if only because I do canon ship pretty hard, but it would be an interesting fwb thing to watch. And I think it would work the way none of the other intrateam ones would.

I want the nate/Sophie backstory fic so bad, it should be it's own longfic genre by now.

I am +1000 on Sophie/Eliot fwb. She has that grifter skill of seeing right through people, he's so worried about who he's become, I feel like they'd give each other respectful distance and then hook up gloriously and then go back to respectful distance but with a newfound level of comfort and mutual respect.

See, I'm only working on S1 + catching the end of the Moreau arc on TV, but I feel like Eliot is pretty OK with who he is, even right at the start? He doesn't like who he used to be, and he's worried that he might fall back into that, but he knows he's not that person now.

Whereas I think a lot of the time he looks at Sophie and thinks, she may be the one who tried to go legit, but she doesn't even have the first idea how to stop lying to everyone including herself. And I think he's not entire wrong about that, but she's also a lot more self-aware than he sees, and he needs to figure that out, and also learn some things about women.

And there's this weird tension where in a lot of ways Sophie and Nate are mom and dad and Eliot's fine with that dynamic, but when it's just him and Sophie you get the impression Sophie actually wants to look to Eliot for approval.

Anyway. Now I'm just trying to figure Sophie out again....

I'm right there with you in the research pile. (Things I have learned from this Yuletide: I really should have nommed my BSc topic as a YT fandom, then I might even have liked the research bit...) Sigh. I just want to produce words!

See, I just want to do research but I know I will have to produce words eventually. Tragic!

I was once most of the way through thinking out a Leverage/Sens8 crossover and I definitely put the ot3 in one cluster and Sophie and Nate in another, because I LOVED the idea of them half tracking each other and half having an awkward unawakened soulbond that kept haaaunting them and then made them very delicate and awkward with each other when they joined the same team.

It's a fandom that needs a lot more soulbond fic of all kinds.

Leverage is AMAZING.

It's so delightful in all ways.

That is the best thing I have ever heard. They could pull off anything, oh my god, can you imagine the banter.

And I mean, "Let's go steal ourselves an election"? And then they accidentally have Feelings about democracy?

I mean, yeah, but as an American, "Let's go steal ourselves an election" is... almost too depressingly real? Since I'm pretty sure at least one of our campaigns this year is a deliberate conjob by a professional grifter who's mostly in it for cash (in fact, based on stuff I've read, one of our *parties* is also just a grift for money that got WAY out of hand.)

I almost feel like in that universe the whole thing is a distraction so nobody will notice they're stealing the World Series for the Cubs...

Yes! So then imagine they dig deep into the data and set out to work the system against itself, only accidentally along the way they kind of get really fond of the idea of voting and of actual legitimate democracy as a security system built throughout centuries for the collective good to try to keep off tampering on so many levels—and start working against people who are trying to game it too, and maybe if they trip over a loophole or two and figure out how to quietly improve it, no one really needs to realise they were there in the first place.

Micah Cohen is the Sophie in that scenario, y/n?
