I have successfully yuletide-sign-upped! Well, assuming I didn't screw up my bucket offer again this year. I decided to be conservative and only offered 60 fandoms this time (...though it would have been 96 if I'd included my six requests and the 30 nominated fandoms that I'd already written or been gifted in exchanges.)

Anyway I'm not doing a yuletide letter this year out of a sad and ineffective protest against the increasing amounts of pressure put on both writers and requesters re: optional letters which are optional, but here is a repost of my requests this year, just for posterity:

Young Wizards - Diane Duane
Nita Callahan
Kit Rodriguez
Diane Duane recently posted to her tumblr that it would be "something of a challenge" to write Kit and Nita having homoerotic tension. So, of course, I decided I needed it. Magical genderswap? Catching their AU selves making out? Visiting a culture that does gender differently and thinks they're a same-gender couple? Realistic trans narrative? So many possibilities! DD got you started. But if that doesn't work, I would also enjoy such things as Kit/Nita/Ronan, Carmela kicking ass, Tom and Carl's relationship when they're not busy wizarding, Ed being Ed, YW fusion crossovers, space pirates, or really anything else that calls to you!

Munchers series (Video Games)
Something about the Munchers being UTTER SMUG gits to the Troggles, please. Take your inspiration from the great moments in history, only make it personal. And maybe with more math. I love that the troggles all get different personalities in the game, too - something that's just them interacting backstage would be cool, or anything that expands on the game's worldbuilding. Human AU where they are all genius mathematicians competing to solve an important problem and there is, like, an everyone else vs. Muncher prankwar would be cool too. Or where they're all linguists and OMG Dr. Muncher is SO WRONG about phonetics why does he get all the grants. Or space pirates. (I am mostly interested in the original Apple II MECC games but if you want to bring in stuff from the others you can.)

James Asher Vampire Series - Barbara Hambly
I want this fandom to have thousands of fics written for it and I don't care what they are, but maybe: James and Lydia being married? James as a secret agent, before Lydia, or in WWI? Lydia and her family, or Lydia doing SCIENCE, or both? James and Lydia realizing that Simon is in love with both of them, not just Lydia? Simon and his cats and his science? Lydia and Simon sciencing together? Simon and Grippen's relationship? Grippen dealing with the aftermath of losing all his fledglings? Grippen and Anthea when the Farrens were all he had left? Anthea learning to be a Vampire, or AU where Anthea survives her husband and sees the world, or Anthea as a living widow, or more Anthea and James? Growing up as Miranda Asher with silver at your throat, or a slightly-older Miranda properly meeting any of the vampires? Space pirates AU? Or really anything about non-nominated characters too. The only thing I'd rather not get is Simon/James or Simon/Lydia that doesn't acknowledge the importance of the James/Lydia relationship.

Lucky Starr - Isaac Asimov
This will be my seventh year requesting this. Are you the lucky one who will finally write it? I would like stories about Conway and Henree raising a kid together and/or being a couple or just their POV when Lucky is out risking himself, I would like stories about Lucky and Bigman's relationship (although if you're slashing them, please don't gloss over the power imbalance we get in canon), I would like stories about Lucky in college or Bigman before he met Lucky or Conway and Henree when they were young and active councilmen. I would like anything that is full of SCIENCE, anything that expands on the worldbuilding or the politics, anything that introduces a character who is female and also human. Not all that interested in space pirates for this one though.

Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage
I'm not particularly interested in Lovelace and Babbage as a romantic couple, but I am interested in Lovelace and Babbage as seriously kinky friends-with-benefits, by which I mean steampunk strapons, Lovelace tops (and similar scenarios). Other things I am interested in: Lovelace and Babbage being friends-without-benefits, more that is just like canon, adventures in the depths of the Engine, any hilarious anecdote from Babbage's autobiography (or other primary sources) rewritten into this universe, Lovelace interacting with other eminent women of the time, Brunel, the dangers of poetry and music, worldbuilding that extends the universe into the future (Grace Hopper? XKCD? Etc.) or around the world (what's up in India? Mexico? etc), crossovers with other fandoms in the same vague time period, space pirates.

The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot
Things I would like in this fandom: Any kind of Five(ish) Doctors hijinx. Maybe McCoy summons them to New Zealand on a Quest for one of the Lost Episodes? Perhaps the phrase "Don't You Think Moffat Looks Tired" is Significant in some way (Moffat-bashing welcomed as long as you bear in mind that he is presumably a human being who presumably has feelings.) Or anything that involves the Doctors encountering SF stuff in the real world. We are contacted by aliens who have been watching Old Who via leaked TV signals and think it's nonfiction? Or we are invaded by evil aliens and the Doctors take charge in the chaos because they know how to handle this and everyone is conditioned to listen to them? Is the Ghost of Verity Lambert haunting the current filming like a sour conscience? Perhaps they have to retrieve Tom Baker, who has fallen through a portrait into the UNIT gallery and convinced them he's actually the Doctor. Maybe they steal a spaceship from the secret BBC vaults and become space pirates. Really anything. I don't particularly care about Actual RPF for this - base it on the personas from the special and general nonsense.

If there's anything else my writer needs to know, they have ten years' worth of YT under this tag to comb through, but really, it's all in the signup, don't worry.

If "don't you think Moffat looks tired?" isn't already a thing, it needs to be a thing.

I'm skipping yuletide this year. No way I can commit to writing a story by the deadline. Oh well, maybe someone will write for the fandoms I nommed anyway.

Ha! I love it. (While resenting that the thing exists for me to love, of course.)

I don't have the fannish investment for Moffat hate as such, really, but ugh, that line, and ugh, what that line did to a character whose arc I'd loved.

I appreciate the number of fandoms you offered, because now I can feel extremely virtuously restrained for editing my offers list down to 40-odd!

Well, I am using virtuous in an extremely tongue-in-cheek way. But I do think there's value for me, at least, in taking a good hard look at each fandom and deciding whether I really would be up for writing anything I'm prompted in that fandom, or if I actually just want an excuse to write one specific story and should probably just keep an eye out for treats.

But Yuletide absolutely is a more-is-better thing yes! I have a lot of friends who barely manage to scrape up a handful of things they're interested in offering, and of course that's fine because whatever works for each person is what works for them, but deep down I just don't understand. Yuletide is all about the surprise and the writing things I wouldn't have thought to write, for me.

I confine my offers to things I can write without questioning my life choices.

Treats are what I write for fandoms I am not remotely so confident about.
