I have my scanner out tonight.

I have also put all of the sheet music I own^* into a spreadsheet, so here is your limited-time offer: until I go to sleep tonight, get tired of messing with it, anybody who wants can request one song off that list and I will scan it for them. Enjoy!

I suggest using full-text search if you want to find a certain song, there's almost 4000 entries in the list. It's heavily skewed toward old standards/broadway and pop/folk music from 1979 and before, because that's what you get when you shop at yard sales for it. Highlights include: a bunch of "buy war bonds!" sheet music from the early '40s, the complete Tom Lehrer collection, Donald Swann's settings of the songs of Tolkien.

...no I am not good enough to play most of this. I am a ridiculous person.

^* that's not actually all of it, I haven't put in some of the fake books or the any of the hymnal collection yet. or any of the stuff printed off the internet. or most of the stuff in the lesson books, or most of the clarinet/sax/flute/organ music. but it's most of it.

I was delighted just to read the list and remember songs from my childhood (the 70s). I can't play keyboard well enough to ask for any music (assuming I still had a keyboard) but thanks for the offer.

Wow, I am super impressed by your music collection. *_______* Did you enter all of that information by hand? (I am now thinking of cataloguing my own collection of mostly-flute music...)

(If you're still taking requests, I'd love any and all of the Tolkien songs.)

I entered it partly by hand, but after awhile I discovered that for a lot of the books, if I put the title of the book + the title of a couple of the songs into Google, it would get me somebody else's list (in an Ebay description or a library catalog or something) and with a little data-massaging, like find/replacing commas for line breaks, I could just copy-paste that. The reason I haven't put in most of the fake books yet is that I couldn't find 'em on google and that's too many songs to enter by hand....

It's been really helpful, though! It didn't help me be able to get rid of any books :P but it's great to be able to find a song I want to mess with without a huge hassle.

In fact 90% of the reason I'm still actively working on getting better at piano after a year is that I randomly wanted to play a song from Annie and the spreadsheet told me my only copy in one of my "adult beginner" books, which reminded me I owned it and I could actually do the lessons for real if I wanted

And I am working on scanning some Tolkien for you now.

It did happen! But the scanner went all weird and I couldn't get any scans that wouldn't take a lot of trouble to clean up (partly because it's a beautiful book with color printing and hand-lettered tengwar...) so I never got around to posting it.
