I have to admit that whenever I think of the Noldor and Oaths I start thinking of the other Oath, and then I imagine wee!Elrond becoming a wizard (he totally is) and wee!Elros too and Maedhros and Maglor going "...no no Oaths are BAD have you learned nothing from our example?!" Noldor: now culturally predisposed against oath-taking. (Although Gil-galad totally did.)

Or - did Fëanor fail his Ordeal? Because from what little I remember of YW, that would explain... a lot.
