Yep, that's pretty much it! I thought it would be more complicated, too. If you haven't been exposed to sugar waffles before, it ends up with this very thin membrane of crispy batter that is basically an airy delivery system for fat and sugar - that whole bucketful was made with approx. 1 cup of flour.
In other words, best food ever.
(there was cooking oil dribbled all over the stove that didn't show up in the picture, but there's so little batter on the mold when you move it that there's not much chance for the batter to drip.)
The batter's pretty much the same, but it's much, much crispier - they're about the texture of a potato chip, really, only made of that sweet batter. Or the texture of a waffle cone, only even thinner and crunchier (and, obviously, deep-fried). It really almost melts in your mouth, it's that thin - the shape you see in the pictures is hollow and open on the back.
It's a Midwestern/Great Lakes fair food, apparently - we learned to love them at the Ohio State Fair - but the ones you get at the fair are about six inches diameter and two inches deep, but still very thin and all crispy; these ones are mini ones, and thus don't require us to own a deep-fryer.
Actually the wine was pretty terrible (we just opened a bottle of cheap shiraz that had been sitting on the wine rack for about five years) but it was okay a) after you'd drunk enough of it or b) diluted 3-to-1 with ginger ale. :P

Also, I respect the cleanliness of your stove. Particularly if you have been frying things involving batter on there. Damn.

...I feel slightly sick and there's still half a bucket left, but it was still and excellent plan.
