So I posted the Big Bang fic, and then I went to a twenty-eight-hour-long holiday party (don't ask. Also I think I offended some people by ranting about Cumberbatch fandom while overdosed on human contact, sorry people! but at least they were mostly half asleep or tipsy by that point and it was probably better than doing it on the internet), and then I sort of floated around for awhile trying to remember who I was without the bigbang story hanging over me, and then I remembered, oh yeah! I am a person with a Yuletide story hanging over me.

(I'm pretty sure I've decided what I'm writing for Yuletide! And I'm even pretty enthusiastic about it. Now I just have to sit down and write it. Oh, and do the canon review. This evening I went around the house gathering up all of the things I need to check for canon review, and, guys, this year's stack is even ludicrously higher than last year's, I took a picture. I think I am not going to review it all.)

Most of the rest of the free time has involved getting-ready-for-Christmas stuff (I started the handmade gifts earlier than usual this year, but that just means I was more ambitious) and watching Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, which is adorable. And also apparently the Star Wars/Avengers crossover I am almost finished writing the first part of is in EMH continuity even though I knew nothing about the show when I started it, so there's that.

Oh, speaking of holiday preparations, Mom ...acquired a little device that works as an electrical tester for Christmas light bulbs and wires. It really is pretty helpful (and the contact on the end is a fairly sensitive electric field detector, which is cool on its own) but I kind of think they could have possibly made some different design choices, overall.

That christmas light tester made me laugh so hard I cried.

They had to have done it on purpose, right? Somebody in a design lab at some factory in Asia scribbled something down, and then passed it to their partner, and they giggled, and said, "Let's send that in, the Americans will never notice", and they were right.

I dunno, the whole thing kind of looks like a dildo, so maybe they were trying to break up the generally phallic outline?

...if that was the case, someone really needs to tell them the difference between "fixing it" and "making it worse". (The light bulb in the photo isn't a permanent part of the device - there's a little socket there which you put the bulbs in to test them, which means you are constantly TOUCHING Santa's... anyway, when not in use it still just looks like a vibrator.)

and now I'm thinking about this: really if you wanted to make it slightly *less* ... everything, you could have put the lightbulb in santa's clasped hands, or his nose or something. There was no need to be all up in his business!

The scary part is, after fixing all the Christmas light strings I'm getting inured to it. At some point I'm going to hand it to someone new and forget how wrong it is.

As for the poll, I had a hard time restraining myself from ticking every box because they all sound interesting, but I thought that might be ... less than helpful.
