Life sucks, I totaled a car yesterday (I'm fine, insurance is covering everything, not even a driving citation, I don't want to talk about it, I am never driving in the week before Christmas ever again), I managed to screw up my yuletide upload bad enough that it requires personal attention from the coders to figure out how I broke the archive, and I'm pretty sure they're not going to get back to me about interviewing for that job I really wanted.

Pretty much the only thing that's bringing joy into my life right now is the story I'm writing. Luckily, there is lots and lots of joy left in the story I'm writing! Also all sorts of people who I had given up on ever being lured to Dreamwidth are finally talking about coming over here. Never say schadenfreude doesn't make life better!

People are posting lists of communities they follow on DW, so here is my list, trimmed of ones that are private communities belonging to one person, or ones that never post:


asexual_fandom = asexuality in fandom context
bakeitup = baking!
cap_ironman = Steve/Tony fic, run by same folks as the LJ one, has a fair amount of DW-only posts, also posts a weekly digest of stuff from the LJ version
changelog_digest = changes to the DW code
chromatic_fanfic = fic featuring characters of color, any fandom
common_nature = posts about nature! Lots of pretty pictures (I run this one, for certain definitions of 'run')
cookability = cooking for people with limited spoons. Also useful for people with limited cooking ability in general...
crochet = crochet!
crossovers = any crossovers, any fandoms
dcmetro = mostly local events, though the mod would be happy to see the scope expand.
doctor_and_master = Doctor/Master community, weekly discussion/polls and a watchalong, mod really works to keep it moving even when we are being lazy about posting stuff
dresden_kink = the Dresden Files kinkmeme. (Man am I glad this was already on DW! Of course the only reason it's on DW is that some of the DF fandom lights were willing to put in the effort to insist on accessibility.)
dw_accessibility = on that note, this one is about disability and dreamwidth
dw_antispam = the spam team, if you want to help DW kill spam they will welcome you
dw_beta = for dreamwidth beta testing, open to anybody who wants to help
dw_maintenance = for notices about downtime, new servers, etc.
dw_news = for news about DW and the DW community
dw_suggestions = posts polls about user suggestions for DW improvements, which are then sent to the coders
dw_volunteers = updates for/about all DW volunteers
factfinding = for asking the internet when you need to know one little fact for something you're working on, and you can't find it anywhere. DW equivalent of Little Details on LJ, but more flexible about what you can ask.
fanart_recs = crack_van-like community for fanart, where people take shifts to recommend fanart in certain fandoms, always looking for more rec'cers
fancake = fic recs community where a theme is posted and then all members post multifandom recs which fit that theme (the current theme is "soulbonding" :D)
fanlore = the discussion/updates community for the fanlore wiki
getting_started = questions from and advice for DW beginners
gimp_gate = on using GIMP and other open-source graphics programs
girlgay = all femslash, all fandoms, all the time
inkingitout = community to post writing goals for the year and keep up with them
kink_bingo = you all know kink_bingo, right?
kink_finders = for when you really, really need h/c wingfic involving swordfights and pizza and you don't care what you have to do to get it, the kink_finders crew will find some for you.
linux4all = for linux users
lj_refugees = more DW for beginners + griping about lj
maddow_kicks = Rachel Maddow fan community
metaquotes = DW's version of metaquotes on LJ
muppets_x = crossovers with the muppets! (okay this one's pretty quiet but someday, surely, it will become a bustling center of activity!)
ofchicago = Dresden/Marcone community
original_slash = what it says on the tin
otw_news = mirror of the OTW blog
podficmeta = meta about podfic
poetry = community where people sign up to share poetry (by other people)
polls = random polls. Lots of tickyboxes.
punditfic = for news and pundit RPF
queerlygen = for gen fic about people who aren't heterosexual
sca_attire = for historic costuming
thosestoriesplus = for pundit RPF, excluding comedians
veni_vidi_vids = fandvidding newsletter
vorkosigan = general Vorkosigan fandom community, gets a fair number of fic posts

ETA: Oh! Another happy thing! siegeofangels, your yarn scraps came! They are beautiful! And there were tentacles (not the sexy kind), which is exactly what I needed.

ETA2: I got the interview! I should have known that "we will notify you on the 21st at the latest" meant "we will start notifying people an hour before close of business on the 21st" - it is a gov't job. :P And my yuletide is in, all non-borked and stuff! And I'm within a gnat's crotchet of having a treat up! Car is still totaled though.

We have to get it fixed tonight (even though this was supposed to be date night), we're running payroll tomorrow and nothing says Scrooge like failing to make payroll right before Christmas.

Somehow that doesn't appeal. :P (Actually if I did something properly shocking/horrible they'd only talk about it where I couldn't hear them talk, and around me, pretend they didn't know about it, because that's how our family works. A stupid car crash, sadly, does not fall into that category.)

I could just make stellar_dust bring her Sherlock downloads and hide in the back bedroom watching BBC shows all week.

I have been thinking about moving over for months but just never got around to it, but my paid LJ time is up in February and this latest foofaraw is really the last straw, I think.

Is there a British comedy community on DW, by the way? If there is not, there should be!

There is britcoms, which does everything comedic and british but it is pretty dead. Oh and it looks like there's a brooker-specific community that has never been posted to? And there's punditfic - the mod has promised that punditfic welcomes anything from the non-American fake news & semi-fake news shows, too, so anybody who's ever been on HIGNFY or the News Quiz or MtW or 10 O'Clock Live or the Now Show, etc, can get posted there, which basically means anybody in panel show/british comedy fandom at all, but I think I'm the only one who ever has - that community's been pretty quiet lately too, I think the heyday of Daily Show slash fandom is passing.

...tbh I think at one point I basically went through and added all the active people who had Charlie Brooker listed as an interest. On the plus side, you can do things like that on DW; on the minus side, it's hard enough keeping the british comedy communities active on LJ. I would totally be in favor of somebody doing the hard work to get one going, though! A lot of the people who are on the LJ communities are already over here.
