Every year I get so annoyed by Nanowrimo posts on my flist, I was prepared to be brutal here, but then I looked at your previous post? Um. Your project sounds awesome, something I'm totally fascinated by! Please don't filter me off? *bakes you cookies*

I also signed up for NaNo, and I love the idea of your worldbuilding post.

Last year, I used Patricia C Wrede's model (at SFWA) for a rough outline of Things I Need To Think About, but it wasn't perfect. There were gaps. It might have been easier to use if I'd been worldbuilding form scratch, but I was writing a HP fanfic, so it took a lot of adapting to make it work with JKR's world.

But, yes -- worldbuilding! I love it, bring it on!

Yes, exactly! It worked fairly well for my HP epic, because that's mostly Earth, plus the wizarding world, but I did think, if I was using it for original fic, I'd be stuffed.

I'm not a scientist, but I know enough about science to know that there's all kinds of limits and reasons why, with climate and mountains and year-length, and I can't just decide to give my planet 2 suns or 3 moons "because it looks pretty," and not make allowances for volcanism, tides, climate, changes to light levels affecting plants and animals, etc.

Hah, yes! And year-length or day-length relate to planetary spin and distance form the sun, which affects...well, everything, so be careful when you play with calendars! They're more dangerous than they look. ::laughs::

Oh, and eclipses! Our beautiful solar eclipses? Pure coincidence because of the size of the moon and the distance from the sun. Not issued as standard with every solar system.

My goodness, but this project could just expand forever if you let it. ::backs away slowly::

Climate and mountains -- I'm looking forward to it already. ::g::

Yes, as long as you stick to "Earth-like", you have quite a bit of flexibility, but I have read some old sci-fi stuff where lots of things were changed (days, years, moons, type of sun) and yet the world stayed almost exactly like Earth, and looking back on it, well. ::eyeroll::

I hope it goes well! ::hugs::

I'm doing NaNo as ronarfel. This year it seems that I'm writing Nabokov fanfiction, which um... why the hell did I decide that was a good idea?

Whoa, I clicked the ticky in the other post, and it transported me up my rlist to this post! Freaky! O.o

Your outline is v. cool! Put me on your filter! But um, I might not read absolutely all of it, fair warning ;o)
