Dash it *all*, I have spent much of this evening consumed by a mad desire to put Lord Peter Wimsey and young Brucie Wayne in a locked room together. (The chronology even fits, if you use Earth-2 Brucie, who's the best of the lot anyway!) They could spend the time talking about rare-book collecting, their mutual hobby!

It's just too bad that I have a near-zero chance of ever knowing either canon well enough to write in it, much less getting the in-period speech patterns right.

No! You must continue! What the world needs now is Peter Wimsey/Bruce Wayne!

[identity profile] melannen.livejournal.com 2006-11-20 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
That would be awesome! Only Bruce is too young for him up until after he's already with Harriet, and having just finished Gaudy Night, I adore Harriet too much to interfere.

But mentor & student would totally work! And how awesome would that be? Bruce goes on his grand world tour of Europe to train himself in crime-fighting, and ends up instead lounging around in cricket flannels, waiting for Wimsey to drop the facade of amiable incompetence, and trading school stories with St. George and Peter ...

Um. Wait. Lady Mary's oldest son is totally named *Peter Parker*, isn't he. Um.

So, Wednesday? I could pick you up at 5:30 and then we could go to Wonder Books? And then go back to Leesburg and pick up the kitties and go to Mom's house?

It adds an extra half-hour of driving, plus an hour or whatever of browsing and buying stuff. But I want to go, and I don't want to leave kitties in the car, or all alone at Mom's house!

I suppose we could decided to not go home till Thursday morning if we need to ....

Also, they're totally having a 3-for-2 sale on all kinds of TPBs at my local Books-a-Million, and I should take you there too.

And you're helping me bring the kitties back Sunday night, right?

That sounds ripping, old chum! Except how I haven't worked since I've been sick and I'm still broke.

Mom wants to get up ridonkulously early Thursday and leave as soon as possible for Pop-pop's, though.

Spiffing! 'cept the books we wanted for Mom aren't listed on their website. Hmm. Well, they might have stock that's not listed, right? And maybe we can find something else cool there for her.

Ok then, we can make sure to get there Wednesday night. How early is ridonkulous?

*looks at LT* Don't we have Clone Wars comics #7 and 9? Why aren't they in LT?

Yeah, we do. Also, I think, 2. Huh, I dunno why they're not in. Whoever bought them must have not added them. :P

Actually, if we're doing a Star Wars audit, we ought to try squirl.info while we're at it...

I like this website already.

I dislike that as well, but at least they have a sense of humor. $10/1 year, or $20/2 years!

P.S. I am once again displeased with Amazon's "speed" and am going to go get BL S2 at Best Buy after work. O YES I AM.

as;dfaoghaw;sjd;. That's an extra TWO hours of driving! It could be 11 or later before we make it to Mom's! Is there any way you can make an even earlier train than the 4:40??

btw, I made a squirl for my DVDs and videos last night. It's not NEARLY as easy to edit as LT (most of my VHS movies aren't marked as such because it's such a PAIN, and I haven't found an easy way to add tags without doing each individual item one at a time). Also it's a little buggy in firefox, and the only "library" it searches in is Amazon. It's difficult enough that I probably won't keep it updated or bother to add my CDs or anything. It might be worth shopping around more before we dump the entire SW collection in - especially since adding most of the non-book, non-dvd stuff probably won't be any easier than using Excel. (Though you can *import* from csv, and looking at squirl is slightly more convenient than downloading a spreadsheet every time we want to look at it.)

Maybe we should start a http://cargobay.starwars.com/, although I'm not sure it would be viewable to anyone but us. Hmm.

Well, no. Not unless the teacher cancels my class, and she's not going to cancel the class.

I could get to Dun Loring about half an hour earlier, but that would add at least that much driving time.

But hey! We can go to the Frederick one today and the Hagerstown one Sunday night! Or something! I just won't be able to afford anything at the Frederick one, since they don't take trade-ins after 4:00. :P

ext_193: (Aayla)

[identity profile] melannen.livejournal.com 2006-11-22 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Or we could go to the Hagerstown one and you could spend pretty much all night driving! I wouldn't mind!

I already told mom we'd be getting home after 10 at the very, very earliest, so. Up to you. They only have one Bobbsey Twins book in the catalog anyway.

[identity profile] melannen.livejournal.com 2006-11-22 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Also note: it's thanksgiving eve, and it's wet, so the traffic's probably going to *suck*. We might be better off not heading out till pretty late. (Or we might be better off minimizing driving.)

I say we go to Hagerstown. I found an alt rt back to Leesburg in case the traffic sucks horribly. I'll drive to Hagerstown and Severn, you can drive to Leesburg?

[identity profile] melannen.livejournal.com 2006-11-22 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose that would be acceptable, if you stay awake to make sure I go the right way.

There *must* be music available other than Jingle Cats, however, if I'm driving.

PS. I DON'T GET IT. ANYWAY THAT'S NOT SAL THAT'S ROBIN. ARE YOU TRYING TO INVALIDATE MY LIFESTYLE CHOICES AGAIN?

Ok! I have Jingle Cats, a tape of silly Christmas songs, and I made a tape the other day of Sinatra/Crosby on one side and Random Christmas on the other. And 97.1 is playing Christmas now! Plus there's lots of non-Christmas.

BECAUSE SEE YOU REPLACE "UPDATE TRANSFORMERS WIKI" WITH "START AND NEVER FINISH ALL SORTS OF FANFIC," AND YEAH.

Oh well. It amused me for 30 seconds.
