Vox!

I have a Vox account! I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, if anything, besides camp the namespace, but if anyone else wants one, I got two invite codes, and as is traditional, the first two people who comment here asking can have them. (Leave me an e-mail address if you don't just want it sent to your lj one.)

Ah, such nostalgia! I got my first three or four lj accounts back in the days of invite codes. And my jf account. Those were the days.

May I have one?

Do I know you? Just curious as to how you found your way here.

What is Vox? Another blogging service? If it's this: http://www.sixapart.com/vox/, I think their "why we're better than LJ" paragraph is a lot of nothing. d-:

.. wait, isn't sixapart the company that bought LJ? .. man, poo on them then.

Yeah. The whole Vox thing has caused a fair amount of bitterness. Most of the people on lj that I've seen get Vox accounts, like me, are not actually planning to use them. However, if it keeps 6A from turning *lj* into myspace, I'm all for it.

[identity profile] zodiaccat.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
It is a lot of nothing. They don't want to actually speak out on differences/improvements, so they just says "Well, Movable Type does blah blah, and LJ does Blah, so Vox combines them into a balance."

But where's the "that does blah blah blah?"

And from what I can see browsing the site, what it does do seems to be very big on the multimedia, which says neither Movable Type nor Typepad to me, *and* doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence.

If it really was combining lj with blogging it might be cool. However, what it seems to be doing is combining lj with myspace.

[identity profile] zodiaccat.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Which would even be alright, if it were being targetted for myspace's audience. But the marketing so far seems to be focused on calling something like a "grown-up" LJ; which I think is the wrong approach.

No! I don't want a Vox invite!

...don't mind me, I'm just being contrary -- an epidemic of Vox invites recently swept over my friendlist, and I've still got the antibodies.

From what I can see, it looks like an unholy marriage of Blogger, Myspace, and Flickr, none of which I really like much. Maybe something fun will eventually gel, but until then I'm staying in the LJ-snobbism camp. So there. :P

I totally see where you're coming from. I only got it because I'm proprietary about my username, and because sometimes it's nice to get into something early if you can. But yeah, there's nothing there that would really inspire me to use it over lj. Unless they get trackback working, which is kind of cool.

Hi! Your userinfo said to, you know, say something if I friended you, so I thought I would.

I actually found your account over on LibraryThing first, as somebody who shared a lot of books with the fraction I've input so far. And so I staggered over here and saw you did fanfic, so, that was sort of an instant friending thing. So, yes. Hello!

Hi! I recognize your lj name and your frog! I wonder what I remember you from. (Friended back!)
