Boston in the fall

So, since my last entry, I have:
given my big end-of-semester presentation;
gone to [livejournal.com profile] speakerender's suprise birthday party;
gone to our friend's wedding reception;
watched Free Enterprise with [livejournal.com profile] xerahanadu and [livejournal.com profile] enemy_anime;
had the annual July family barbecue;
Written a bunch more verses of the CitH/XF crossover story.

Oh, and today, Mr. Dan and Linda took Mom and me out to lunch for her birthday and out to see that movie with the pirates in it.

It was a very good movie; far better than I'd been expecting - *pretty*, and some wonderful character moments, and great new characters, and just like the first one, great fight scenes. It was essentially the fanfic I've been wishing for two years that somebody would write, and better than most of the fic, so it had that going for it. It suffered from two problems, though: Too many characters, none of whom ever managed to stay sympathetic for more than about three minutes at a time; and a plot which depended on characters being repeatedly stupid. Especially the fact that apparently everybody in the entire movie (including Will) forgot that William Turner is a BLACKSMITH!

Arrggh. I just wanted to yell repeatedly at the screen: Will, you're a freaking master blacksmith! I know you look good shirtless and whipped, but You Can Just Make Your Own Copy! Arrrr.

Anway, I would go into more detail, but now I only have about two hours left to not do the stuff that I'd normally spend all weekend not doing.

You Can Just Make Your Own Copy!

1. Ahaha, that hadn't even occurred to me.

2. I would assume that any supernatural key couldn't merely be copied in a regular smithy, because of the magic involved. But still, they could have at least mentioned it.

See, as soon as the picture was unfolded, I just figured that's what they were going to do: find Will, get a copy made. My mom said the same thing, so it's not just me. q-:

You're right - I'd be willing to go with it being magical. *If* they had at any point said it was magical. But there was nothing in the whole movie that even implied that; as far as I could tell, the chest itself was entirely mechanical, and I was *watching*. So, ARRR!

If you're coming to Bos in the fall, you absolutely have to meet [livejournal.com profile] plorkwort.
She writes Dalek lullabies.

Really, there *has* to be something magical about the key, otherwise why not just smash the chest (or the lock, like Jack did to the outer chest)?

Maybe there will be a DELETED SCENE.
