I should be doing schoolwork right now.
I have been kind of sniffing around the edges of Dr. Who fandom lately. (What with the new show and all.) I have been a casual Who watcher for yonks. I can't remember ever *not* knowing that the TARDIS is shaped like a police public call box as camouflage and this ought to make perfect sense to everyone.
But then I get into the fandom and get confused. Because I can't keep my Doctors straight.
No, actually, I can keep my Doctors straight. There are 9 Doctors (because I haven't seen any of 10 yet), I never get them confused, and these are their names:
1. The one who made me realize I have a thing for old guys.
2. The one who has a Three Stooges haircut.
3. The one who looks likeAlexander Hamilton the guy on the $20 bill.
4. The one with the scarf.
5. The ugly one.
6. The one who looks like Willy Wonka.
7. The cute one.
8. The American one who was trying to be Lord Byron.
9. The one with the ears.
People start throwing around things like "McCoy" or "The Third Doctor" and I get confused.
It doesn't help that people seem to think that the ugly one is actually cute, so I always think they mean one of the others. (Possibly due to the fact that he apparently played Tristan Farnon? Tristan is teh sex, but I never saw any film adaptations of Herriot.)

I think everyone has their favourite way of telling the difference between them all, and it all gets confusing. Although I use the Fourth/Seventh/Ninth kind of system for naming them myself, and always have, so maybe I have no room to talk.
6. The one who looks like Willy Wonka.
This one in my head is probably more like:
6. The one with atrocious fashion sense.
And from what I've seen so far, 10 is fun.

I'm tempted to say 'but doesn't that include *all* of them?'
Except that I only have *one* labeled 'the cute one', so, y'know.
If I keep diving further into the fandom I'll probably have to learn the numbers - but I never saw the episodes in any sort of order, so it doesn't come naturally to me.
From what I've seen of 10 - which is pretty much just screencaps - I think that he's far too (young and) conventionally pretty to be a proper Doctor to me. But that may change once I see him actually act.

*snicker* Okay, yeah.
I can never get used to Sixth's costume. It was atrocious, and the first time I saw it again after many years, I ended up with a headache for the next two days. At least, that's my story. But I'm biased because I totally have the love on for Seventh, as evidenced by the icon.

Yeah, that's a problem. I think I've seen most of Seventh/McCoy/this Doctor (indicates icon again), and then there's Scarf-Doctor, and then there's the one from the first season of the new series. I'm trying to download Fifth's first season now, because I have seen nada from him.
Sometimes, I seriously think the only reason I keep them all straight is from being friends with
10 sort of grew on me. But I do think that actually watching him in the downloaded copies of the Children in Need special and Christmas Invasion helped. Also, it helped that his actor is an unabashed fanboy.
Mind, it's also making the fangirls go crazy, which is annoying. *rolls eyes*

Six is probably the one I've seen least of. I have pretty much watched them whenever they were on television and I was near a television, all my life. Unfortunately, they were usually on at the wrong times, so I manage to catch about three or four widely spaced episodes a year.
I've seen most of Ace's doctor, and the one with the scarf has always been *the* Doctor to me, and I've seen quite a few of the first Doctor's episodes, and quite a few of the ones with UNIT, and the TV movie, and the first half-dozen episodes of the one with the leather jacket. The one with the Three Stooges hair and the one with the cricket uniform I've probably seen only a few of.
10, not at all. Like I said, I'm reserving judgement. But the Doctor's not supposed to be that pretty. It distracts from his sparkling personality, and draws annoying fangirls.
On the other hand, if he can play it like Barty Crouch, he may grow on me.

It's said that whenever it was on, I had my butt plonked down and you couldn't remove me. I was pretty young when that was going on, and I didn't react well when they took it off. Ace's Doctor was always "my" Doctor, and in some places in fandom, he's very much not popular, and I have to fight down my indignation. *wry* I like the one with the scarf enough, but he's not my Doctor. I've actually seen all 13 with the one with the leather jacket, and oh, I adore him.
I was sort of like "You may not be my Doctor, but you'll do" at one point.
As for the rest, I think I might have seen an episode or two of cricket-boy, because there are things that seem familiar to me about his era. None of the ones with UNIT, one with the Three Stooges hair, and none from the rest. I hear I'm deprived. :) (*cough* Depraved might be better.)
Even given what's been out so far, it's probably too soon to tell on 10, but I think he will definitely have his moments. I'd love to see him play it so that because he's pretty, people will underestimate him, and for him to play on that...
Of course, if he played it like Barty, I wouldn't mind that either.

The old guy I fancied is the one from the really early B&W episodes; the one who had a granddaughter, and wasn't *quite* as flamboyant as his later incarnations. Probably why he lived long enough to die of a heart attack.

Thank you! I've been trying to get this accross to my mother/sister for years! They insist that he's "dreamy."
Ugh.

Have you seen this??
*is ded*
Re: Have you seen this??
You *need* those DVDs.
(ALSO THERE IS BATMAN/ROBIN ROLEPLAYING IN HIS INBOX.)
Re: Have you seen this??
This year you get the best birthday present since Attack of the Clones came out: 2-HOUR BOSTON LEGAL SEASON FINALE MAY SIXTEENTH (http://www.boston-legal.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=262).
Re: Have you seen this??
IS IT A TWO-HOUR WEDDING EXTRAVAGANZA WHERE THEY FINALLY RESOLVE THREE YEARS OF UST? Because that would be the best birthday present *ever*.
Re: Have you seen this??
YES. I mean, maybe.
So, um, you need to write a fic about how Oma Desala is Dawn Summers' overprotective real mom. Yes.
Re: Have you seen this??
You're lucky I caught the teaser of House while I was setting the VCR, or I'd have to go all SPOILER GRR on you.
Yes! Of course she is! Because weird glowy squids are love! And Daniel is the daddy, because Daniel/Oma OTP4EVA.
(Now I want a sweetly romantic Dawn/Orlin insane asylum love affair. CURSE YOU SISTER.)
And in conclusion, sleepy.
