That side was made for you and me!

So, has anyone written a new version of "This Land Is Your Land" yet, in the wake of the Supreme Court decision abolishing private landownership last week?

And speaking of roaming and rambling and ribbons of highway, we're heading off to Ohio tomorrow to visit relatives, and then meandering home the long way, possibly stopping in Nashville to visit more relatives. Mom is still claiming she doesn't want a cat because it gives her the freedom to travel open-endedly like that; my sister and I have started replying that that's why we don't want jobs. We may or may not be home by the time the new Harry Potter and Stargate come out, and as usual, I have no idea what my 'net access will be like.

I should be asleep long ago, but I went and put up some (about half) of the pictures from the New Jersey trip, since we're leaving again already. We were at [livejournal.com profile] enemy_anime's fourth-of-july gathering last night, and he mentioned that he sometimes uses our pictures for photo references. Well, I'll have to confess: many of my Jersey pictures were actually taken with comic book photorefs in mind. Because the whole time-- in Atlantic City I was thinking: Whee, this is where Gotham City is! and around Cape May I was thinking yay Bludhaven! and on the ferry I was thinking This is the route Dick must take to visit Clark in Metropolis! Only very quietly, because none of the people I was with care about comics. Although I'm working on [livejournal.com profile] stellar_dust.

I have the feeling it wouldn't be *quite* as cheerful.

I dip my toes in the Atlantic.(from pics)

You seem to have several of these. XD

O'course, there is still the last bit there:

And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.

Yep. I think I learned the fourth verse before I even knew the first by heart. :) It's fun delving in to the black-sheep later verses of our patriotic songs.

Actually, mine have been read and blue since the Fourth.

And I outgrew the alternating-toes thing long ago last summer, now I always make sure both my big toes are the same color q-:

This land was your land, but now it's our land
but it's only an issue 'cuz it might affect rich men
don't take thier beach fronts...because they need that second house
Eminent domain is fine by me

Oh, and thanks for the pics, I'm saving them to my comp when I get home. ^_^

If you want comic book style Jersey photos, you should see about convincing the family to drive all the way up to Asbury Park. Once a bustling tourist spot, the sightseers stopped coming by over 50 years ago when there was a rash of shark attacks one summer. Old, decrepit buildings, splintering boardwalks... and I think there's a giant elephant statue there, but I can't remember if that's the right Jersey Shore town...

The giant elephant statue is a long-time friend of mine;
Lucy (http://www.lucytheelephant.org/) lives in Margate, just north of Atlantic City; we went to visit her last year! And frankly, Atlantic City is enough of misery and urban decay for me, and with that certain frantic carnival atmosphere on top that reminds me of Silver Age Batman...

Of course it's possible I'm over-thinking this.
