July 2nd, 2006 02:28 pm - Tumbled Overboard
After church today, I spent half an hour trying to teach myself in vain how to improvise a jazz harmony to "Heart and Soul" on the piano.

(This is not actually quite as obsessive as it sounds, because just a few days ago I had actually pulled out "How To Play From a Fake Book" and started working throught the piano chord tutorials for the first time, and it uses "Heart and Soul" as an example. I think I may actually stick with it for a while - I've wanted to get back into music-playing for awhile, and the longer I've been at home with Mom, the more I miss the sound of Dad constantly messing around with harmonies on the piano. And the only way I'll be able to hear something like it again is to learn to do it just as badly as he did...)

This afternoon, I'm going through and sorting out all the files that I've pulled together from two laptops, two desktops, and two memory chips, to make backups in preparation for putting different OSs on several of the systems. Including all the mp3s. And the temptation to make a Clark/Lois fanmix while I'm at it is jost ... so tempting.

And speaking of that, to transfer them from one computer to a nother, I put up 850 megs of *extremely* assorted mp3s to YSI. I figure I might as well share, since the file's uploaded anyway - everything from "We Change the World" to the extended techno remix of the original Dr. Who theme. The zip file is here, if you want it.

...if someone friends me out of the blue who has "butchering Harry Potter fans" as an interest, should I be worried?

I'm going through my old files. You know what that means!

Time to play "Name That MP3"!

This is the only mystery one so far. The filename I have for it is "06 Borderline.mp3"; I've had it for nearly a year. There is no metadata. The music is very heavy on the bells. The singer is female and breathy. The lyrics begin, after over a minute of bells and drums, with "Borderline, borderline, why'd you have to have me? / Crazy man, crazy man, why'd you have to marry her? / Years of therapy, something one borderline. / No, take your time. / I'll be just fine."

Any takers?

I also have an unknown female vocalist covering "Hallelujah" (yeah, good luck guessing that one) and a peppy J-Pop cover of the Internationale by a band whose name I've forgotten.

Oh, and speaking of files, um, I am hereby announcing [livejournal.com profile] phile_files.
