January 1st, 2005 12:24 am - maybe this year will be better than the last
So, happy new year, everybody! I thought I'd welcome in the new year with an lj entry-- we actually got back from the family visit almost a week ago, but I've been feeling the real life love instead of reloading my lj-- imagine! Not that I've actually been doing anything exciting; let's see if I can remember what I've done since my last entry.

We got to my uncle's house im Miami County Ohio a day late in the rental car, and were promptly snowed in. Actually snowed in; drifts on his driveway were over four feet deep by the next morning, and the county (wimps) had banned non-emergency vehicles from the roads. We didn't leave his house and yard the entire time we were in Ohio. I did a lot of reading (Westmark, some non-fiction, Silence of the Lambs, an xf tie-in novel which was ripped off of Silence of the Lambs, BtvS and XF fic whenever I could get my hands on sister's laptop) and watched some television and did a lot of sleeping and it was very relaxing. We went out to play in the snow once, but it was below zero fahrenheit most of the time, and ND-girl may call that just chilly, but I decided to stay wrapped in blankets most of the week ([livejournal.com profile] stellar_dust has snow pictures of us here.) However, the drive did get scooped out on Christmas morning, and most of my crazy relatives showed up. There were thirty and two halves of us there, counting the one who isn't quite born yet and the one who only thinks he's a person as halves. So let's see if I can do a run-down like last year's )

Anyway, then we headed back home; got back Tuesday night without much hassle, although the car still wasn't fixed (it is now though. We think, anyway. There's been a lot of car trouble on my flist lately; hope you all have as much luck.) Since then I've mostly been watching Buffy and Angel, )
pondering the unbearable Stuffness of Stuff, )
and making visits. )

And tonight I'm just back from a New Year's party, which *rocked*. It was at our church, and we played games and drank lots of sparkling cider and watched the fireworks in Baltimore on televison and wore funny hats and blew horns and poppers and ate food and had fun. Mom said I should have gone to a party with people my own age but I couldn't think of any reason why, since the game night people at church are my friends too and fun, and why exactly is it better to get drunk with a bunch of twentysomethings than hang out with cool people ranging in age from eight to eighty? I'm not exactly on the matrimonial mart. Besides, Mom has room to talk, she spent her college years hanging out in the basement of the Lutheran church too.

And we got home by one after helping clean up and Mom went to bed. I have decided I'm going to watch the sun in. As [livejournal.com profile] stellar_dust griped, New Years midnight is less exciting when you normally stay up till two. So I've decided I'm aiming for dawn. I think I'm going to hang around feeling decadent all night, reading my sister's laptop by candlelight, in my candystriped knee socks and slinky black satin slip (which I inherited from my grandmother, like practically every piece of halfway sexy clothing I own) and then go greet the dawn, and play outside tomorrow; it's supposed to be beautiful and warm and I want to say hi to the creek like last year. Maybe I'll get the old Daisy air rifle down from the attic and see if I can figure out how to get it working without putting my eye out in the process.

Right now I think I shall go make some hot cocoa with real chocolate, and spike it with rum, and wrap myself in a blanket and go exploring the vast, beautiful untouched territory of this year's [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. And maybe work some more on that wonderful awful holiday fic my sister made me start last week, if I drink enough rum.

Current Music:: counting crows - long december
Current Mood:: [mood icon] decadent
