A prayer for St. Columba

So, did anyone else react to The Great Outage with a feeling of ineffable relief that they had a weekend *off*?

Actually, [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1 did too, and she said it much better, so at least I'm in good company.

Hmm. Been a *long* time since I've updated. The really *big* news is that Mom is making me work-- I spent all last week in my old middle school's media center, sorting books. My dream job. I'm not sure it counts as volunteer work, though, since they're taking advatange of a willing book-monkey to start on cleaning out the collection, so I'm getting paid in used books!

Dream job. Think Mom's sorry she started it though. q: If anyone has any messages or things they want me to spy out at the old school, I'm gonig back next week to do inventory.

On my lunch hours I read Artemis Fowl, which has good characters, bit is severely lacking in *plot*. Also, he's way too into the potty humor. And I'm about halfway through The Amazing Maurice, which is very, very good and I should get a copy for Katy in my ongoing campaign to convince her that the Discworld is *awesome*. I'm also suffering from horrible, recurring suspiscions that Keith is Ronnie's kid. (The strawberry yoghurt! Hearing the music in the air around them! The metatextual hints! If it turns out he's somebody else's son I'm going to be *massively* disappointed.)

Um. Other than that, I've been hanging out with Mom. Hanging out with other people. Watching television. Writing occasionally, and drawing... wow, it really *has* been a while since I updated. I owe [livejournal.com profile] zodiaccat a massive *squee!* of thanks for all the comic books, which came the same day I brought home a bunch of others from Salisbury, so I've been suffering under an embarassment of riches, yay. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] zodiaccat! SO MUCH! (and anyone else who wants a similarly squeeful raction from me knows how to get it now. I am shameless. And I will read *anything*. Over and over again.)

I have a $50 amazon and $25 borders gift certificates from Christmas. I really shouldn't spend them all on superhero TPBs. No, I really shouldn't. Aagh! One of my childhood unattainable dreams was to become a true comic book geek. I . . . help!

Oh, I've also been working on finishing my 1950's Snoopy mood theme. Have all but 60 moods iconned now. True comic *strip* geek, that I've always been.

(the new icon is from the Batman movie, by the way. That's the *awesomest* movie ever.)

You're required to spend the certificate from me on a DVD season of something-or-other, so that should simplify things a bit. d-:

Yes, but I could spend it on xf season 1 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00003RQND/ref=pd_ys_pym_a_6/103-7605106-0338240?v=glance) and still have enough left over for a used TPB-- or, alternatively, I could pre-order BAtman or Superman or Justice League ... and still have enough left for a TPB, come to think of it.

*weeps* Oh, the *choices*!

Check on Ebay for the X-files DVDs. I was able to get S1 for $4, and I'm pretty sure S4 went for $12 to someone a week or so ago.

but I *have* to spend the Amazon gift certificate on a season of *something*-- didn't you hear my sister? Besides, I am avoiding Ebay madly, in hopes of preserving my checking account.

I was horribly sick and wanted to do something besides read my books, and LJ was gone. :(

Yay Discworld, though! I got the last books that I had read but didn't own on Saturday!

Discworld is *much* better for curing the sick than LJ. You can curl up in bed with soup and blankets and DEATH. Yes.

I haven't read nearly all of discworld, butI'm close to owning all the ones I've read. Um, still missing FaustEric and Small Gods and Soul Music though. And maybe others. I got a brand-new Night Watch hardback at Goodwill for $.40 last week, which made my day.

Wow, people throw Pratchett out? I've never seen any Pratchett in any used book store since I've been into Discworld.. though I guess with the Goodwill thing it could be somebody's mom giving away all their books. I think you've read all the Discworld I have in book form, although I do have the two cartoons (Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music) - to be honest I'm not that wild about Soul Music in general, though I kind of like Wyrd Sisters. Both have Saruman as the voice of Death..

And yes, Maurice &c is excellent.. though as I said I didn't get into Wee Free Men and ended up returning it to the library unfinished.. :-/

Anyway, see you tomorrow!

More or less. Something Positive (http://www.somethingpositive.net/sp01152005.shtml) had a fairly accurate depiction of how many people seemed to react, though. Randy is my hero. (:

And glad you like the comics. Wasn't sure what type to getcha, since the interests are kind of all over the place, so I pretty much picked the most interesting-looking ones. Enjoy! ^^

I have no taste in comics-- I'd been re-reading old Archies (http://www.livejournal.com/community/scans_daily/267947.html) for heaven's sake, such was the depth of my *need*. Right now I'm all about the capes-and-tights crowd, but that could change without notice at any time. So, YAY!

All this comic book talk reminded me!
If, in your searches, you happen upon a comic called "Get Bent" (it was a very-small press comic done by a guy named Ben T. Steckler, hence the name), could you possibly note where you saw it? I've been looking for some of the first few issues forever!

And just what is wrong with Archie?!
