Self esteem's for everyone!

Did I mention I love October?

One of the evil mutant squirrels is losing its tail. It must be the same one I saw last week-- at that point, it only had a bald and inflamed-looking patch in the middle. When I saw it today, it had lost the last half of its tail, and most of the rest was hairless, pink, and gangrenous-looking. It also seemed to have lost whatever residual caution of humans it had (although the evil mutant squirrels are notorious for lacking caution anyway); I knelt down to talk to it and it came within a foot of my hand without even the bribe of food. I found an old pop-tart in my bag and gave it half of it, even if it did look almost as sleek and sinister as the others.

I think I will try to remember to say hi to it the rest of the fall; I've been meaning to make friends with the evil mutant squirrels for a while. My first year, there were only two or three of them over by the bio and ag buildings; now, they're just as common all over campus as the regular gray ones. I imagine within a few years they will have totally taken over squirrel society and be ready to start on humankind. Which is one reason it might be wise for me to start making friends with them now . . .
