So for our paleontology lab, we were supposed to go play with MacClade for a while. MacClade, as you might be able to deduce from the name, is a cladistics program which only works on Macs. So I had to go find the supposed Mac OWL lab in the basement of the Benjamin building and play with the Macs.
It was the most I've done on OS X in a while. There are things I like about OS X-- the Unix terminal was nice, and I've learned to appreciate the Finder. There are more things I dislike, like that huge icon bar across the bottom. I'm sure there's a way to turn it off or resize it, but as a default it's *really annoying*; it gets in the way on the screen, and the bouncy bouncy is *almost* as irritating as the MS paperclip. And I've been using Macs occasionally since sixth grade and I still haven't learned to like the way active applications usurp the desktop; it interferes with my already shaky situational awareness.
But the main thing about OS X is that it's so darn *pretty*. I never understood people who talked about Mac graphics, because OS 9 was rather ugly. OS X is pretty. It's so pretty that after using for an afternoon I got used to the prettiness and came back to my cruddy-looking home computer and it actually looked, well, cruddy. Curse you, OS X, for being too pretty and spoiling me for anything else.
Speaking of pretty-- I'd almost forgotten how much I like October. Mmmm. The weather's always perfect, even when it's raining, and the days are short but everyone's still on Daylight Savings Time. October. Yum.
I've just come back from my physics midterm, which was fun. I'm always happy coming back from physics lab, even though we haven't done any physics yet. Maybe I should take a stat class if I have time; I think I've been missing good old-fashioned math.

We have no DST! ;) And it's (relatively) cold and windy outside, so it actually feels like October here, not summer as usual. :)

I stay on DST all year round. It means I don't have to get up as early in the winter.
