(no subject)

*Somebody* snuck into my dormitory today and slipped a DVD and a chocolate bar under my door. After I'd *specifically* mentioned here that we had both version of Dune, and I'd never bothered to watch either one. Is the David Lynch version *really* one of those movies that's so awful it's life-altering? If it's worse than the books it would have to be. Or do they actually improve the story by adding bad special effects?

Huh. If I actually checked my e-mail sometimes I might even have an idea where they came from. How about that.

Oh- and [livejournal.com profile] officialgaiman mentioned the National Book Festival just now, and I really have no excuse not to go. I have a Metro farecard just sitting in my wallet. And it would be the perfect event to wear my cloak the first time this season, if it's cool enough. And I could get Neil to sign my book and Neal to sign my other book and just go totally fangirl on Patricia Wrede, since none of her books are at school with me. And I could bring homework and if I'm too shy to actually elbow my way into the crowds I could sit on a bench and pretend to be homeless.

Anybody else thinking about going?

*looks around innocently* But you don't have them at school... And you forgot to mention rearranging your magnetic poetry;-)

Really, the David Lynch version makes you appreciate just how horrible the Sci-Fi channel miniseries version is. Despite slaughtering the book horribly, the movie is actually entertaining, so if you disliked the book you might actually like the movie.

I was actually considering heading downtown this weekend.. it's definitely good cloak weather. I thought I had Talking to Dragons here but apparently not..

Wow, how OVERWEENINGLY SULLEN MY SNIPE~MOUTHED MOUNTEBANK

I'll have to tell Mr. Swanson that his little box of Shakespearean insults is actually getting some use again. q-:

I have Talking to Dragons and Searching for Dragons and Dealing with Dragons and Magician's Ward and four or five Lyra books. And they're all very loved, too. At home. Darn.

Overweeningly sullen, eh? The shuttle doesn't start running until noon on the weekends, so if you want to go to the Neil Gaiman signing do you want me to pick you up?

Hey, it was the first reasonably coherent phrase to come out of the box. You're lucky you didn't end up a FUSTILARIAN CODPIECE.

Nah, if I do go I think I'll make an adventure out of it and try to take my bike. I'd rather make it to his reading than his signing anyway.

[identity profile] aelkiss.livejournal.com 2004-10-07 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Even the OED doesn't know what FUSTILARIAN means (unless it's somehow related to "fustilugs", a person, esp. a woman, of gross or corpulent habit) so it might not have been so bad.

Without the incentive of being supposed to pick somebody else up I don't know if I'll manage to drag myself downtown early enough for his signing, or even at all. But if I do end up going I'll keep an eye out for you.

If the David-Lynch one is the 80s Dune, then yes, it is so bad to be worth seeing. And I actually liked the Sci-fi channel's Dune. Their sequel, however, was disappointing. And neither of them compare with Sci-fi Battlestar Galactica, which was awesome personified in a candy shell.

You've just convinced me: They're both terrible, and now I'm not even going to bother trying to catch the Farscape miniseries.

I wouldn't mind watching the original Battlestar Galactica series, if I could find it anywhere. Although Starbuck would probably confuse me for awhile.
