gollum
Mom and I went to the Renaissance Festival yesterday and ran into
katrianya and family. I finally got to meet the little one, who is excessively cute. She also made the fourth person in three days to ask why I hadn't been writing on lj lately, so I suppose that's as good a reason as any to start again.
I haven't been updating lj lately because I haven't been wanting to think about the hole I've slowly been digging myself into on the subject of my senior thesis. So whenever I have an unoccupied brain pathway, I shove it full of fic or tv shows or books to avoid the thinking. Not writing or conversing. Yes, bad coping mechanism, but I knew that already. I think I need to borrow
stellar_dust's "I can't do this, Sam" icon. The sad thing is, I still tell myself, "if Frodo and Gollum could do it, you can," whenever I need to force myself to walk into the mouth of Doom, to claim the power and disaster I've been denying. And it still works. *Odd* coping mechanism, that one.
Anyway. Renfest. I brought Hermione along and she spend most of the time lecturing me about the history of Britain from a wizarding perspective and witch-burnings humour as releveant to politics. Mom and other renfest stuff were fun as usual. We looked at the shops without wanting to buy anything and watched plays and people, which is a very different experience from when I've gone with friends. She though Hermione was weird though. And it was very crowded. And it was pirate weekend, which if I'd known I'd have worn an authentic pirate costume instead of my standard fake-rennaisance dress.
stellar_dust is gone away again. She made me watch the travesty version of Star Wars. And I delivered peramorphic Luke and Leia dolls to my paleontology class and they all cracked up at Luke's bare, rippling chest muscles. Ick. I need some real SW goodness. Help. Who was at the Yavin base during the destruction of the first Death Star? Was Winter there? Who were all the fighter jocks and command people? I've forgotten all the mounds of EU trivia I poured into my brain three summers ago before I found HP fandom . . .
