This will be my second all-nighter in a row. Never done that before. The evillest bit is the first one *wasn't even necessary* because she gave us a one-week extension on the paper without telling anyone. aarrgg.

and now i have to get a powerpoint presentation ready for tomorrow morning. and i tried to play a rented dvd (for homework purposes) yesterday and it jammed and now my computer refuses to admit it has any cd drives whatsoever. help, linuxy people.

i am so glad i have no plans this weekend, i am going to *collapse*. and *fall over*. yes.

on the other hand, while in advanced state of mindwarp last night, finally posted that xfiles mulderfic to alt-xf and skyehawke and the fb has been giving me much-needed happy. must remember that whenever i get depressed, edit and post one of my hoarded fics. Of course i did mess up the formatting; i hate mailing lists. . . i think if i post any more xf i'll do the manual-archiving thing.

I am going to give this presentation. If I am still alive afterward, I am going to take my sed-strat midterm. After that, it depends on the weather whether I feel up to going all the way back to my dorm room, or just fall asleep on a park bench somewhere between there and here.

I don't think the dvd drive itself is the problem; somehow in my attempts to retrieve the dvd before it got ate, the only directory remaining in /mnt is floppy/. So the cd-rw drive is sulking too. Maybe after i've slept for twenty hours or so i'll just try doing interactive startup or something.

Maybe if you just did as root mkdir /mnt/cdrom or whatever it used to be before it disappeared and then tried mounting it? If you've got some silly automatic mounting thing going on I'd probably have to actually look at it to figure it out. I'll try giving you a call afternoonish and if you're not around will try to catch up with you Friday or Sunday (since Saturday is Maryland Day = avoid campus like the plague = Southern Maryland Celtic Festival)

well, Scully isn't a *visionary* the way most of the others are. She isn't interested in some great and ineffable Truth or Destiny, she just wants to figure out what the heck is going on. Much healthier mindset really.
