to cogitate and to solve.
Tonight was a community open mike we were required to go to in college park. I, working under the mistaken assumption that my roommate knew the bus routes, trusted her on the timing, so we ended up walking over half of the city and being half an hour late to the open mike, so (tragedy of tragedies!) I didn't get to read. The one person there voluntarily was really good, however.
Most of us walked back, too. I really love walking at night. It's beautiful and still and so very there, and I've never accepted that I'm supposed to be afraid. This time, however, we went in a huge group, and somehow they all started talking '80s television.
This is something I know nothing about. My childhood TV watching was limited entirely to PBS. I cannot sing the theme song to "David the Gnome" or "Umbrella Tree" or whatever else. I felt utterly isolated and alien and inadequate.
On a possibly related topic, look, new icon! q: I was getting tired of staring at all of
stellar_dust's Mulder/Scully ones, when we all *know* that Monday/Frankly is infinitely cooler.

Yeah yeah. I should make some non-x-files ones but I keep getting inspired.

I was only kidding, y'know. Seeing as my current tally is two PotC, two webcomics, two me-art, one Shakespeare, one McCarthy, and one random lithograph, you're ahead on variety.

I was thinking about making a harry potter one, but no quotes from OotP jumped out at me, so, oh well.
PBS children
Note that I don't even have an HP one at the moment, just my fake Draco/Ginny. Have been uninspired on the hp icon front, yes.

Re: PBS children
I was talking to someone the other day and said "MPT" instead of "PBS". Silly MD.

But what about poor Martha?

And frankly it scares me you remembered that . . . it's been so long since Square One ended that I barely remember anything except how cool it was.
. . . you don't by chance have any episodes, do you?

Anyone, from what I remember, it really was more an olderbrother/younger sister thing. At least with Kate. The last two seasons after she left really went downhill. q;

Um. Pardon me whilst I hogtie my inner rabid fan.
Well, ok, not so inner. Um. Yes.

Mathman never made much of an impression, perhaps because most of the computer games I played actually resembled it greatly.
*sigh* I wonder is mathchase still exists in any form . . .

Look around you
There are many things to see
That some would say could never be
These things I know
It's true and I will tell you so
They are there to see
If you believe.
Trolls and creatures and fairy kings
Birds that talk and fish that sing
And if your heart is true
Then you will find them too
In every wish and dream and happy home
You will find the kingdom of the gnome.

I seem to remember one episode where they were all upset that their milk hadn't delivered, so they made a rational decision... If our milk isn't here, the milkman must be in mortal danger. We must save him! (It turned out his daughter really was in trouble, so I guess it all worked out.)
If you haven't already, watch a few episodes. It's funny to watch it and think; "My goodness, people actually found this entertaining?" (And yes, I did. My pre-Kindergarten days were always spent watching this immediately before "The Phantom Tollbooth")
As a side note, I am absolutely certain that David married his wife for her looks, cause she has got to be the most vapid, hollow woman (gnome-ess?) in television history...
Fairy King: Make sure you do not touch the water of the river.
David's Wife: Ooh! I think I'll watch the little waves my hand makes!
Monster Under Water: GrrrrrROW!
