(no subject)

This morning I bought a tiny 1927 wind-up alarm clock with a diameter of about two inches. It's pretty badly water-damaged and it only ticks for about ten seconds after it's wound, but it is little! And cute! And since it's little I can justify storing it, and since it's cheap I can justify buying it, and since it's already nonfunctional I can justify taking it apart to see what makes it tick.

...if I actually get it ticking that'll just be a bonus. (I don't expect to get it to keep good time, but I like the tick, what can I say. And it's little! And cute! And fits just right in the palm of my hand, like a newborn kitten! And I almost walked away, but I know I would have regretted it for years if I didn't.) I plan to take it apart this week while I'm home alone.

...that crusty white stuff in it just better not be Time Lord essence, that's all I can say.

(ALSO, they're showing Torchwood in the US finally! On *BBC America*, which the only way you can get it in this area is on satellite. How is that fair?? That probably means they'll never pick it up on a channel we get, too. I blame the vast right-wing conspiracy. And FOX. Oh, oh, I tried to be good, but Captain Jack, sooner or later you'll drive me to finally learn torrents. Alas.)

That is terrible that you don't get BBC America!!!! I watched the first Torchwood ep and was impressed- m/m kissing in the first episode and apparently sex monsters in the second. Also there was lots of other pretty and funny and awesome.

I have a dark suspicion that the m/m kissing is why it never got picked up on a mainstream channel. :/

That episode was on Friday night! I can't help that it was in my thoughts.

I'm trying to avoid increasing my lj dependence, so -- umyes? Please?

I can't right now (something went funny with MegaUpload and the mods have suspended okaying new members until it's figured out), but once the comm is under control I'll requestinate.

PBS may eventually pick up Torchwood. They picked up New Who.

Actually, I'm surprised Torchwood isn't on Sci Fi first — Sci Fi picked up New Who before BBCA did, and was already airing series 2 when BBCA started airing series 1. Oh BBCA, always with the Pythonesque sensibility. But this means it'll come out on DVD soon enough! OMG. I dl'ed the first series, and I can't wait to watch it without squinty-vision.

PBS picked up New Who? Why haven't I heard of this? It must not be showing anywhere in my area. :(

And yeah, I haven't heard of it showing up on SciFi - like I mentioned above, I begin to suspect that some higher-up is choking on the non-heteronormativity, because there's no *good* reason for them not to. (When they're showing promos during New Who on SciFi for Torchwood on BBCA, it seems unlikely they have any plans for it...)

My fiance runs Linux, and in order to watch movies we own free and clear on DVD, he has to torrent them, because for Ubuntu (his distro) to distribute the proper codices would violate the DMCA and open the project to legal liability.

You can't download a patch for it from someplace? When I was running Red Hat back in the day, I had to fuss to get it to play dvds, but I did eventually. (Of course, that was several iterations of DMCA ago.)

ahem. (http://tv-links.co.uk/listings/1/110) Torrenting may not be strictly neccessary.

..They've stream the whole series? *Distributively*? Torchwood fans are awesome.

TV-links is awesome, but it just does the linking, and often some Chinese piratey video site does the streaming. I can only imagine the language barrier keeps shows up longer than they would last on YouTube. Stage6 links seem to have a short lifespan, but the Tudou Torchwood episodes are still working.

*ahem* if I were to, say.. actually get BBC America, would you ever get around to watching any tapes that might magically appear in front of you?

It looks like you have hookups for dls, though, so whatever.

Would it increase the chances of *you* watching it? If so, then yes. :P

(Otherwise, probably not. I have Dr. Who eps that've been on this computer for months and I haven't got to yet.)

Mneh, I has no time to watch more tv. So no.

No tapes for you, then!
