So apparently, Dad 'ships Schaefer/Ehrlich.
I'm at home, having come home for cousin Sammy's first birthday party; spent the first half coloring and playing trucks with the neighbor kids, then once they'd gone home, us grown-ups sat around and watched Baby Einstein videos and read board books while little Grace took a nap on Mom's lap and Sammy played with his wrapping paper. So a fun time was had by all.
Of course, I can't visit home without being given odd stuff the parents have picked up somewhere: This time it was a collection of old geologic maps and nautical charts of the Chesapeake and the Florida Keys, plus a 1918 book on the building of wooden cargo vessels, and big poster of the history of merchant sail, including types of rigging, knots, and navigational instruments. Great. Trying *not* to get obsessed here, actually, Mom. Since that seemed to have become a theme, I cajoled Dad into telling me stories about his boat-building days. I think that 'build a sailboat and circumnavigate the Peninsula' has now been added to the list of pipe dreams, right behind join the Peace Corps, be a professional novelist, and have a self-sufficient farm.
Now, writing by candlelight, then bed.
