Not really back

Reporting from my sister's brand new phone connection and brand new University of North Dakota Aerospace dialup account in her brand new apartment on her brand new computer, in the land of mud and mosquitos, prairie dogs and cottonwoods, bison and sky: Today I slipped and fell into the Mississippi river; yesterday I saw the world's largest bison statue; the day before I went geocaching for the first time; the day before that I found the perfect drop-spindle at the Grand Cities Art Fest. Current plans are spend tomorrow shopping and benchmarking, then head west to the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore and swing back east to southwestern Ohio in time to attend my cousin's wedding and my great uncle's estate auction (which are both a week from Saturday; contemplate the cycles of life) then aim to get home by that Monday or Tuesday.

I *could* wax lyrical about the scenery, plants, and wildlife here-- particularly the sky, which continually astounds-- but it's after 3:00 central time, and I spent six hours today riding squished in the middle seat of our car, and took a long hike for something like the fifth day in a row, and I haven't sufficient motivation. I will simply paraphrase the old ladies who saw the ocean for the first time in their lives, and say "It's not as flat as I expected."

I *should* be posting an update on the story I owe [livejournal.com profile] tarimanveri, 'specially since she's done such a good job on the one for me, but I left home in such a rush and crush that I don't have my hp books, or even the books-on-tape, which I *really* would have liked having for the car ride-- anyway, I'm at a point where I really need to synch with canon, and I can't, so I'm afraid I will have to postpone several weeks, and make it shiny-new book-five compatible. I've actually been working more on the hp-cyberpunk, which is unlikely to be spoiled; fear me. And working on my hard-sf epic about the first interplanetary war. And playing a lot of Commander Keen with C, since it's the only game on this computer and we didn't have 'net access, and it was important to prevent C from getting bored, or he would have stolen all my books. Even more so.

Has anyone else ever written Lindsay/Billy Keenfic? How about Billy/Mortimer?

Oh, and speaking of rush and crush, sorry about the incoherence of the previous entry; I had originally thought I was leaving four days later, with Mom and Dad and a lot more personal luggage allotment, and I'd have time to get things done, but logistics were arranged at the last minute, and I ended up riding with Katy, with something less than 24 hours warning. *Normally* I proofread first, really. And make some attempt at clarity. To explain: My sister is starting grad school at UNd-- Space Studies-- and the whole family, including her boyfriend, has trooped out 1400 miles to get in her way setting up in a new state.

Anyway, 'net access will still be sporadic at best for the next week and a half. This is probably either the best or worst time to be offline; I'm leaning toward being grateful. The next time I post will be post-OotP.

We've seen license plates from forty-two states, DC, US Gov, two Indian reservations, and five Canadian provinces.

And as this free dial-up access is limited, I'm signing off from Sunflake City.
