I see what you mean, it's just that historical novels about people who actually existed, like Edward Pellew and Cleopatra and Sei Shounagon, basically ARE a subset of RPF and that's what I was thinking of, not "Edward Pellew and Cleopatra go to high school together and he gets pregnant by Julius Caesar, oh noes" which I sort of knew existed in RPGs but wasn't aware of as a fic genre? (And yes I'm being flip, but I am not saying this shouldn't exist, only that I never heard of it before, because it's not the sort of thing that I'd go looking for.)
