My reason for posting this was that in several "don't forget the queer slashers" posts, nearly everybody was saying "sure, slash fandom is straight, but my circle isn't." And I think most of them thought that was correct (or, you're right, had never actually thought about it.)
And I agree about the reflexion on culture as a whole, but some parts of the culture are farther along in the transformation than others - I live in a hot spot of East Coast Liberal Elitism, and I can tell you that slash meetups are far queerer than any of my other RL communities, even other fannish ones.
