I kept meaning to say: for backstory and crack you cannot beat Enterprise: The First Adventure. Because of the circus, and the flying pony, and the bit with Uhura and Janice Rand. And, oh, the part with the steak, and the puppies, and WOW, I never realized how much crack was in that book.
