May I also plug the excellent enemyship pairing in my current fandom, Flight of the Heron (it's listed as The Jacobite Trilogy on AO3)? It is a small rarelit fandom, with a canon from 1925, a book by D K Broster. There's a read-along in progress right now.
The canon is actually very good, the author really hits all the enemies-to-friends-to-lovers beats and has some glorious hurt-comfort as well. She would totally be writing slash fanfic if she lived today. The main characters are on opposite sides of the 1745 British civil war, and there's a lot of one of them capturing the other, one of them saving the other from being killed, one of them thinking the other has betrayed them but then finding out not, etc. There's only 50 works on AO3 but basically all of it is good (I say, having written some of it myself).
