100 days of enemy recs: 100. I did it??
I made it to one hundred days! I did it! Only one month later than my original prediction! :D Maybe I can still finish things after all! I hope so because I haven't started Yuletide yet!!
I will do a follow-up post at some point with stats and stuff, and what to do now, and hopefully also get everything tagged better, but for day 100 I am going to go through the 40 fandoms that are left on the spreadsheet and give them each a couple lines to make excuses as to why I skipped them instead of writing up a post! So no recs today, but a lot of fandoms!
- american idol : I read a bunch of this! People from very different backgrounds competing against each other on a reality show! I cannot remember any of the character names involved except Adam Lambert. I think at this point half the fic I remember is actually reality show AUs from other fandoms.
- arthurian : There are definitely very good enemy ships in Arthurian fandom that I didn't cover, but I don't really read modern fanfic for it, the fandom is weird, and all I could come up for recs was, like, stuff written by Welsh monks a thousand years ago.
- battlestar galactica : There were definitely enemyships in the canon. I'm pretty sure. I gave it up early based on the rule that if any main female character gets her ova stolen I quit the fandom immediately.
- bible : The obvious further ships here are Jesus/Judas and God/Satan, but I am still traumatized by the dip I took into the "bible" category on ff.net years ago which was full of extremely sincere Jesus/Reader romance fic, and also my actual New Testament enemyship is Judas/Matthew which I don't think anybody has written.
- blake's 7 : I am certain there are very good enemy ships here (Avon/Servalan rings a bell? Avon/Blake?) but I definitely don't remember enough to rec any.
- die hard : I guess Matt/John sort of counts? I get that vibe when I read it! but not having seen the movies I don't know or care enough to make a case that it does.
- Dr. Seuss : I though I had read some good fic shipping Sam-I-Am with the other character in the book, but I couldn't find it again, and I guess there's an animated version now that screwed up the characterization. Much as with all the other Dr. Seuss fandoms I might have found fic in. *sigh*
- fast & the furious : This is definitely a classic "undercover cop falls for criminal" thing (I think?) but I only read sedoretu fic in this fandom which isn't really a basis for either a recs set or understanding the fandom.
- frontier wolf : Hilarion/Alexios is *so good* and also basically 100% written by authors I'd already used in other fandoms.
- gotg : There are some good enemy ships here, but the second movie did a bunch of mixing up shippy vs. parent/child feels and I haven't been able to get back into shippy fic in the fandom since then.
- gravity falls : All I know about this fandom is that people ship a triangle with a gruncle and the fic looks scary.
- greek mythology : Lots of ship options here! But the kids who grew up with Percy Jackson have gone lots of places with it that I haven't followed, so I dunno where to start with recs.
- hamilton/burr : I have shipped this since the first time I visited Blennerhasset Island in the early 90s, but the fic is all musical fandom and the musical fandom is. scary. (The same problem different musical applies to Adams/Jefferson.)
- hawaii five-o : Steve/Danny is technically kind of enemyshippy, or at least "this guy is fucking annoying"-shippy, but I only read fic where at least one of them is secretly a mermaid.
- hogan's heroes : My relationship with this fandom is complicated but - oh wow, there's a lot more Hogan/Klink fic on AO3 than there was pre-pandemic, I guess I'm not the only one who binge-watches this when I'm super depressed and anxious.
- hornblower : I feel like at least one of the lieutenant ships here had enemy elements, but it's been long enough that I can't remember which one, which is probably a sign I'm not qualified to rec.
- how i met your mother : If only this canon hadn't fucked up literally all their ships.
- indiana jones : Here's the thing: Onscreen in Raiders, Indy/Marion was super fun, but offscreen she was fourteen and he was a grad student????? And then their kid was Shia LeBeouf?? And nobody really writes Henry/Elsa.
- letterkenny : Every so often a gifset of this comes by and I binge everything I can easily watch free, but I've never had access to a service where I can watch the whole thing, so while it feels like there's enemyship, possibly involving Katy and the hockey players. I am not confident what.
- m*a*s*h : The relationships in this are so complicated! and good! someone who knows the fandom better should do me a recs set.
- muncle : Illya and Napoleon definitely count. Partners across the divide of the cold war! I have not read a significant amount of fic since before AO3 and don't remember where to look and never got into movie fandom.
- narbonic : This is an excellent canon enemyship between two mad scientists, and it was a long standard YT nom that I always offered and never matched, but I guess nobody else matched either 'cause no fic :(
- Olympics : Every so often there's an Olympics year where a particular rivalry catches fandom's eye and I'm into it. The last time I followed along though I think most of what I read was on a kinkmeme I cannot now find.
- portal : Chelle/GlaDOS! All I know of it is the theme song and the memes and I did make a good try to find recs but couldn't figure out how to navigate the fandom.
- ranma : All the old ranma fic got destroyed in a horrible archive-deletion incident twenty years ago. :(((
- red dwarf : Look, of course I ship Lister/Rimmer, but. I'm not sure I actually want to read fic about them. tbh.
- sagas of icelanders : Still no Hallgerður/Bergþóra fic on AO3, which is terrible.
- scrooge : Something in my brain said that Scrooge/Marley was an enemyship and should be on the list, but then I couldn't justify why it was an enemyship, except that I ship it the way I only ship enemyships.
- scrubs : I am always there for the story about the snarky senior doctor and the ex-wife and their incomprehensible relationship, but this fell under the "if you can't remember the character names, don't do it" rule.
- shakespeare - coriolanus : I was in Les Mis fandom when the Hadley Fraser version of this came out, so I feel like I was in the fandom because everyone around me was, but I've never actually read or seen the play and all I remember is that it is very slashy and very gory.
- snoopy & the red baron : Best platonic root-beer-sharing enemyship, basically no fic. (Actually there's probably other good Peanuts enemyships but I have never looked for fic for it, I just read the paperbacks until they fell apart.)
- spiderman : There are several Spiderman enemyships that could go on here but the only one I want to talk about is Spiderverse Aunt May/Doctor Liv which is 100% canon. Also peripherally Squirrel Girl/Kraven the Hunter but there's only one fic for that. And if I start going into random Marvel Comics rarepairs where does it end.
- star wars - clone wars era : I know there are very popular and probably very good enemy ships here? But I don't mess with Clone Wars era.
- star wars - sequel trilogy : Poe/Kylo might even have been an interesting ship, so many mommy issues between them, but then it got icky canon het smeared all over it and also whatever that was in the third movie.
- supernatural : I think the true enemyship here is Supernatural/Supernatural fans/everyone else who had to witness that
- teen wolf : Look, the thing is, I just can't make myself care about Teen Wolf, I've tried! In my defense I think a lot of Teen Wolf fic writers didn't manage it either.
- teenage mutant ninja turtles : One of my closest RL friends has been a monofan for TMNT for about 25 years (and has been writing the same WIP the whole time) so I had to put this on here, and I guess Leonardo/Karai (Shredder's daughter) has been a pretty big ship for some versions, according to her? But she doesn't really engage via shipping and I basically only engage via her.
- three kingdoms : This is definitely a book I should finish reading someday and then figure out what I ship in it.
- x-men : Storm deserves an entry, because all supervillains fall in love with Storm (and, also, just, Storm is great.) But if there is a cache of fic out there about Ororo's adventures dating supervillains, I don't know where to find it.
- xena : I think there were some enemyships in this fandom? Xena/Callisto is ringing a bell, and so is Ares? I never learned to navigate this fandom though, Xena fandom always kind of had its own language and customs.
