In order to avoid answering important correspondence, I have been working on cleaning up my DW reading circles today (adding friends colors - man do I miss the ability to add them at the time you subscribe - removing dead RSS feeds - etc.) and as a result I have discovered a very important fact that I need to share:

As of last month, 025.431 The Dewey blog has stated that the correct call number for Quidditch is probably 796.32, but that they are now keeping an eye on whether it needs an official ruling. (I filed mine under 796.329&3/4, so yay, I got the same answer as them!)

On the one hand, of course there's a DDC blog, but on the other hand, omfg there is a DDC blog, I love everyone in this bar.

I'm so confused about the way fiber arts gets apportioned in Dewey. And that's not counting the Pop knitting that's over with the tattoo archive and the manga.

The explanation for that is that the system was designed by a 19th century (notably misogynist, even for then) dude who did not think fiber arts were a real thing that anybody would need to archive books about, and so we make do. (It could be worse! They could have all ended up under "folklore" along with fashion and etiquette. Instead of only some of them ending up there.)

It'd make more sense if it was only the Halloween knitting, crochet and quilting cohabitating but they are commingled without recourse to These Are Holiday Themed or These Have Science Fiction.

This would be less worrisome but my system's going to computer catalog may have involved Jack Sparrow. Which is an impressive bit of work, but it's why I cannot tell what any of the Marvel things are without getting to its shelf.

That is the best DD for Quidditch :D

I have corralled everything to the 746s in my home library, because I can do whatever I want in my home library, and so there, Melvil.

But then there's my witchcraft books, which are still about evenly split between the 133s, the 299s, the 390s, and the 900s. (I really need to get back to designing my custom-to-my-library call numbers system.)

I suspect there are a lot of Dewey ranges that are bigger on the inside in the Hogwarts library.

My personal library in arranged by topic with the exception of the quartos and comb-bounds. Topic can be a little fudg-y. I might once I can do a better matter of shelving get it so the different regions of history can be organized both vertically and horizontally.

and so there, Melvil* belongs on a t-shirt. But what would be more useful swag for librarians?

* Bet he had a thing for simplifying spelling, too?

You can always put it on a bookbag for librarians! Or a pin. Librarians are surprisingly into pins.
